keep switching on and switching straight off again by any chance..
PSU is the most liklely culprit. Andy |
You've been visiting dodgy sites maybe ?
.. best advice, turn it off, take it outside and sledgehammer it :) or get a good local pc technician to look at it.. |
best advice is post in the computer related forum......
|
Lob it out of the window on the nearest chav :)
|
but it might just bounce if its a laptop :(

When it does EVENTUALLY start up, how many icons do you have near the clock???
I'm betting that there are loads of bits starting and loading everytime you fire the computer up that don't need to be there... Couple of big culprits are msn messenger and messenger live, fine to leave running if you use it a lot but if it's only now and again, tell them NOT to run every time the computer starts. Hope this helps Ady. |
You have too many programs running, you probably have spyware/viruses.Your computer needs a good clean prefeably a fresh install of windows.Remember next time dont install anything you dont need to use :)

first thing is to give us a very accurate description of how far the computer gets when booting.
1) Do any lights come on? 2) What about the cooling fans? 3) Do you hear the hard drive spool? 4) Any warning beeps? 5) Does the monitor show anything, and if so what? |

does sound like Power problem doesnt it ? How long does it take to show up the Windows "starting up" screen ?\
HD spool when it begins to read the HD from the time the power switch is enabled. |
Hence why I said it.
PSU can't supply the needed amps to run everything. Prove the point by unplugging everything unnecessary for it to at least boot.... (just motherboard and Heat sink fan left connected) If you can get as far as "no HDD detected" on the monitor. then chances are it's the PSU falling over. If you prefer a cheap "bung some new kit at it and try it route" then a quick trip to Maplins or such like for el cheapo "Q-Tec" power supply... Not recommended for long term use but cheap enough to just try. Andy |
