Fitting a front splitter
I've got myself a front splitter for my Bugeye and will be fitting it tomorrow.
I've sprayed it up and intend to remove the front bumper and get it all lined up properly and secured tomorrow. The holes on the splitter line up correctly with the holes in the bottom of the original bumper but the splitter also came with a warning to use extra screws at the front so it doesn't get ripped off at high speed. Anyway, what would people recommend to use on the original holes and would I be right in thinking Silkaflex or similar bonding sealant would be plenty strong enough to hold the splitter on in addition to the fixings in the original holes? I'm planning to use some large flat washers and stainless nuts/bolts on the original mounting holes. If anyone could take a look at their splitter and let me know how it's secured I'd appreciate it. Cheers, Andy :thumb: |
Blimey, I'm just in from the garage doing the same thing!. The original fixing holes arent enough to hold it in place. My splitter has another 13 , 5mm holes in it which I drilled through into the bottom of the bumper. The recommded fxing is well nuts and 5mm bolts, but I've always found them impossible to unfasten once the rubber has aged. I've used spire clips inside the bumper, but plain nuts and washers would be fine too.

Thanks for that speedy reply, think i'll go along the same route myself - can never have too many fasteners :)

Painted and fitted - took a while as the bumper has a couple of hidden fasteners that had me :wonder:
Definitely easier to fit it with the bumper removed from the car - excellent bit of kit for the money and really finishes off the front end. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/186/4...ad2636fe_o.jpg Well pleased. Andy :thumb: |
Andy, where did you get the splitter mate?

Hi Steve,
I got it from HT Autos via Ebay. Welcome Page They're £99 + p&p on the website but they list them on Ebay for £70 with £18 p&p (Ebay id - hta-subaru). It came primed, just needed a couple of can of satin black spraying on it and up it went. Cheers , Andy |
Cheers mate.
May treat myself. Steve |
You couldn't take a pic front on could you Andy? Wouldn't mind seeing how it looks from the front.

Steve, will try and take some pictures from the front for you over the next couple of days. Can't move the car at the moment 'cause I've fitted some new brake hoses and haven't bled the brakes yet:eek2:
MatthewH - I replied in your other post :thumb: Cheers, Andy |
