4 pot Front brake pads.
 

My front brake pads are a little low so off I went down to Halfrauds to see if I could purchase a pair to sort me out. After looking throught he daft wee book that you can never flick up without it coming back down (or worse the pages fall out) I drew a blank. Up i went to the parts counter and the wee old woman told me that id have to goto the stealer to get them as they dont stock anything newer than MY98.
Surely Halfrauds do a set? :wonder:

My guess is the stealer will want the naughty side of £100 for the OEM ones so what are my options? The OEM pads I have are just fine for my needs so I dont really need the Ferrodo DS2500's that everyone raves about. :norty:

Where can I get a standard set and roughly how much? If poss could someone post up a pic of some 4 pot bugeye pads so that I can get an idea of the shape of them. :luxhello:

Also could someone give me an idea as to how the pads fit in - are they held in with pins or a bracket of some sort? (ive changed pads before on a 306TD without a problem).

I recently replaced front and rear pads with Blueprint parts. Cheaper than OE and work just as well if not slightly better. Less dust too

And on another note, the car has done 3000 miles in the last year so needless to say the discs are rusty. Reckon I should replace these at the same time?

Hell No, I'm a Ferodo DS2500 front and rear, DBA discs, Goodridge hose and Motul brake fluid man:D:D:D

Try Ebay for some Mintex Xtreme fast road pads, I think I paid about £60, seem pretty good, plenty of bite.

Just buy the standard SUBARU ones ........ mine lasted about 65,000miles - the rears are still ok at 75,000miles.

The Subaru ones fit, they don't squeal, they come with new springs and stuff - even some Copper Grease.

I got some OMP ones off ebay for about £30. They seem to work just as well as my previous Ferodo DS2500s and don't leave as much dust on the wheels.

After doing more searching, ive found this goldmine of info for the budding DIY'er.

Of course, Subaru make there own pads just like all the other manufacturers :)

What you need to do is find out which companies make the pads, and get them without the Subaru branding.

Buy the best you can afford, cause if you need to use them in an emergency you'll be glad you did'nt buy the cheap crap ones that faded in an instant. DS2500 Id recommend. They're not that expensive, buy from AS Performance.

Also, for my own ref, or anyone in future looking for a similar answer (I couldnt find this anywhere else), here is the outline of the 4 pot front brake pads.

If you can take a pad to a decent motor factor, they will match it up and supply you with new ones, usually Ferodo or Mintex and cheaper than dealers;) They have a huge book with lifesize drawings of the shapes of all pads.

In a pinch, pads can be relined: I've had my caravan brake-shoes done as replacements were impossible to find:(

the four pot pad used in Subaru calipers is the same as the one used in Mitsubishi GTO 3000's with the sumitomo caliper.

I have used the blueprint pads and they cracked up very badly after some fast road driving. Not going to bother again, the money saved IMHO is not worth the risk of not stopping when you need them. Buy decent pads and disk's as it only took a few minutes of hard driving to overcome the Blueprint pads.
