Word of Mouth Advertising

BBC NEWS | Magazine | The (sponsored) word on the street

Is this something that would really work over here.....?

Would anyone on here be up for it?

Have to say, I'm on the fence at the moment - keen to hear the views either way. I mean, if you could just sign up, get all the freebies and not do anything.... who's going to know...?

Utter rubbish, makes you want to go and have a nice crisp pint of Stella Artois down the pub..

:D

paulr 26 March 2007 02:06 PM

Utter b0lIocks.

Abdabz 26 March 2007 02:07 PM

No is the answer for me... Imagine one of my friends saying "Here Abdabz, try this nutritious, delicious marmite and turd sandwhich, rolled on the thighs of a hairy virgin"...
Like I'll ever trust what they say again after plugging products in that way...

The only thing it could possible work with is lager :lol1:

Or that Massage Parlour in Kings Cross ;)

I think most of you have missed the point entirely !

You all do it already, by chance try a new product, you really like it and you tell your mates about - that's how most people probably found their way to this forum - by personal recommendation.

This way you get stuff for free, stuff you might never have considered before in the past, if you like it you tell people, if you don't there's nothing stopping you saying that as well.

It happens in every supermarket every day of the week when Doris is offering a free taste of product "x" ........:)

But word of mouth only works because it comes from a trusted source who has knowledge of the product/service you already have an interest in.

This idea is just a Tupperware party without the party.

And a great way to lose friends.

Richard.

I think it's a very good idea. Infact I'm going to sign up.

Sony can then send me a PS3 with games and I'll tell every Tom, Dick and Harry about it. :thumb:

Exactly - how do they track the "word of mouth" message? At the moment all I can see is it's a great way to get loads of freebies........ there must be a catch.... :Suspiciou

.. only now you have to work out if someone is honestly sayinga product is good, or is a "fanboy" or is being paid to say something is good.
