I would be grateful if you could all tell me what spoiler would look best on a version 4 Type R. I am thinking of a Sti 5 or 22B. Any other suggestion happily recieved.Who do you think makes the best quality for the price as many companies offer the same style spoilers?

STI definately, think it's the one with the
brake light in the base of the spoiler which sits on the boot. We were going to get one but the local minkies would be swinging of it

Thanks for the reply, I think it will be the Sti. The 22B is probably over the top for any other car. Scoobymania are selling them quite cheap at the moment so I think I will but from them.

WRC spoiler looks the best (in my opinion) and you get downforce instead of the lift which the STi5 spoiler gives.

Sorry, not ordered from DRM yet so cant say about paint job although someone else on here has and didn't say anything negative....

hmm, STi5 gives lift? Is there any particular reason why they made it do that?

I've got the DR Motorsport STi V5 rear wing on my silver MY00. The paint job is OK, I have just asked them to do my side skirts as well. It is somewhat heavier than the standard spoiler, if you open the boot from the drivers seat the boot no longer springs open, but sits open on top of the catch. David is very helpful and I can highly recommend dealing with DRM.
NB Do not try to fit the wing by yourself, it took me hours.

It is made of Fibre Glass, very good quality which hasd the brake light included.
It came in two pieces, I brought it to my local repair shop, he joined them both together and filled in the joints and then sprayed over it. It looked the Business, My self and my father fitted it, @30 Mins including the giving out to eachother. Hold the F***ing Thing.., But fair juise to him he was a great help.. I got this and my Lip spoiler and Headlamp covers done for £110..

DRMotorsport are still doing free painting on all v5/6 rear spoilers, saving you about 70 quid.

Rich what is the paint job like? Have you also brought off them?

I have the STI6 on my MY00 4 dr. It too was a two piece but I have had it joined and filled as one and it looks fantastic. Just had 17" gold Radius R3's fitted too and they bring the spoiler into proportion with the car. I can get some pics but don't know how to post them.

Did David join the two parts for you or did you have to do it yourself, I oppted to get it apinted and filled in myself..I could not believe how heavy it was when I opened the boot, but It does look the excellent..( It took my self and my father around 30-40 mins to fit, I had already the fittings done to the boot from the previous high line spoiler..I also got the Lip spoiler for the Y2K model, went on lovely, David will give you a £50 reduction if you do not want it painted, nearly £70 Irish, as you can see a lot of saving..

The reason it took me so long to fit the thing was that the holes from the existing spoiler did not line up with the new one, so I had to drill more. Then when trying to screw it on from inside the boot the b$%##y thing kept on lifting up and sliding along the boot, so I had to go back out and line it up, back inside, it would move... I'm sure if someone had a camcorder on the incident it would have been highly entertaining. Can I also recommend doing it in daylight, as lining up the holes is difficult in the dark.
David had got it painted and fixed together for me so 'all' I had to do was attach it to the car. Had it wired into the alarm last week, so I will know if anyone tries to borrow this one.

Does anyone know if the David Reid spoilers are 'genuine' or copies, slightly puzzled by the reports of it being much heavier.

Robertio - Does the boot lid feel heavier now? Does the boot stay open ok or does it need holding up now?

Fitting tips - make a paper/card template of the underside of the wing mounting edge - you can poke the point of a pencil through to mark the holes (this doesn't work on American spec wings http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif) - transpose this on to masking tape stuck on the bootlid - drill holes - sorted! I've also got a STi spoiler from DRMotorsport, £350 with a top paint job. It was a choice between that and the 4 piece 22B style. Incidently the 4 piece spoiler is made from injection moulding plastic resin, and isn't glassfibre like the one from Auto Design. They are also designed for a Subaru, and isn't a universal fit so it doesn't need altered or cut to fit. (I did a fair bit of shopping around first as you can tell)

The STi spoiler does weigh a bit more, but the bootlid stays up okay. I had someone help me to fit the spoiler as it's definately a 2 man job. I didn't drill any extra holes, but used some stickyflex, which David gave me.

Ps. How did you wire the spoiler to your alarm??

To get the spoiler wired into the alarm I just went back to Drivers who had installed the Clifford alarm, they used the wiring for the brake light to create a loop. Was around £60 (a lot less than having to replace the thing again), and they made a very neat job. My boot stays open fine, the extra weight at the back should make the car fly better, closer to 50/50 weight distribution.

More choices with the best quality for Scooby`s kits and bits.
