Which Diesel Mondeo??

I'm going to have to take the plunge and get a bigger car.

Have just about decided on a Mondeo in the £11-£14k bracket, but need to decide which is the best spec?

Can I get a good spec lower power engine and get it remapped? Is ST much different to Ghia X?

What will the 2.2s remap to?

Not a complete shock to the system, as I've persuaded the wife to keep my Cupra (she wont drive a big car) and just get rid of her fabia vRS.

I have a ST TDCi that is a cracking car, fully spec'd.

Selling now so if you are interested see https://www.scoobynet.com/private-sa...tdci-sale.html

Depreciation will still be quite nasty at that price range.

I have mondy st after having a Megane 225. Obviously not as quick but great for fast cruising on motorways, and not to bad on the back lanes, though compared to the megane you can really feel that lump of pig iron up front when you try and throw it around abit.

The difference in the Ghia x and the st is purely in springs, the St having slightly harder ones.

Tuning comes from superchips using a bluefin and if memory serves, i think it taked power up to 180ish (don't quote me on it)

All in all i found if reasonably frugal, loaded with toys and fairly fun to drive

Interesting - how cheap do you have to go before taking huge hits in depreciation?

Big Bear 22 March 2007 05:57 PM

You can get 190 bhp and 315lb/ft of torque from the ST with a bluefin and a K&N filter

mine was 23k 2 years ago, up for 12k or near offer so I would say that it has taken its big depreciation hit would'nt you ;)

All relative I suppose as it depends how much you're willing to put up with. I wouldn't buy a Mondeo at less than 3-4 years old, but thats just me.

Can get brand new 2.2tdci ST's now for £15,375.

My dad has a 2.2tdci Ghia and it's a really nice car to drive.

:)

Can you give me a link to that price...

Afraid not, you only wanted to spend up to £14k. ;)

This is crazy, cannot get any links to work. Just do a national search on Autotrader and you'll find the advert.

Buy a 3 year old 130 tdci, save you a packet, get em for about 6k with reaonable mileage on, they plummet like a pair of knickers in a place of disrepute :p though 5 year ones are a real bargain, a 6-7 year old one can be had for just over 2k with average miles (80k)

Tony:)

I think the 115 models have cam belts, but the 130s and above have chains - so that's a good reason to avoid the 115 if nothing else.

I wouldn't spend a lot on one, as the new model is out soon and residuals will plummet (even more so than usual!)

logiclee 24 March 2007 10:03 PM

Have a look around the car supermarkets like New Cars Suppliers Motorhouse 2000 Ltd Cannock West Midlands UK or Motorpoint: UK's No1 Car Supermarket - New and Nearly New Cars .

Delivery mile TitaniumX TDCi's for less than £14k.

6 month old ST TDCi's with 5k miles for £14.5k

The new model is just around the corner and it's a great time to buy.

You will loose less in depreciation over three years than buying 99% of any new cars on sale

Cheers

All 2.0 16V TDCi and TDDi Mondeo's on the Mk3 have chains. Only the old 1.8TD had a cam belt.

Supermarket prices have already softened because of the the new model. A year old £12k TDci GhiaX will easily fetch £6k at 4 years old and 40k miles giving a £6k loss over three years.
That's not bad for a mainstream nearly new motor in warranty.
A Scoob will loose more than that. ;)

Cheers

I have the 115bhp Mk3 version and can confirm that it has a chain and not a belt

Thanks for that, looks like I was given duff info

Great car to drive. Fantastic steering.

I much preferred the feel of the non-ST models. The ST models feel a little bit wooden IMHO. I had an ST220 for a while.

wilfthree 26 March 2007 05:02 PM

Agree nice motor (used to have one and would have another) but please dont shell out any more than 6k on a 53 plater or you'll get trousered come resale.

pwhittle 27 March 2007 09:07 AM

we got the 130 TDCI (the one to go for IMO) at Christmas for £5200 on a 53 plate, with warranty (then the delaers closed down!)
Very pleased, but as we thought nothing like as hard wearing as the Volvo.
Nice and chuckable for a big car, and got my first points in 15 years, which was nice.
quite easy to get 48 mpg.
I'd have a 2.2 if I were to get a newer one though.
