BMW E34 M5

Anybody on here ever own one of these? What was it like to drive/live with? Massively expensive and makes scooby ownership seem like pennies? How long will they go on for as seen some high mileage example on autotrader still going for over 5k.

Someone round the corner from me has a silver one sitting outside his house that hasn't moved in a couple of years i'm guessing and it seems a hell of a lot of car to just let sit there and waste away. Looks in good nick apart from the black rubbers on bumpers/doors etc going green with mould/moss where it has been sat still for so long.

I've always wanted one since having an E34 525i years ago which was lovely but not that quick and assumed the M5 version must be excellent.

My brother had an E34 520i and always wished for more power. He wanted the M5 version but ended up with a Skyline due to the massive price difference.

It's probably broken and going to cost a fortune to fix. I have an e39 M5 and have spent over £1000 this month on things breaking.

3.6's are pretty solid and reliable. E34's in general are great cars though, very reliable.

Trouble is with them, performance wise, they`re SO bloody heavy, great car though my mate has had a few :thumb: :thumb: can be pricey though if they play up :nono:

the engines are absolutly bomb proof and is the lump to have in the bmw tuning world, can take a big turbo bolted straight on with only a shim between 2 head gaskets.
the rest of the car can be a bit loose and suspension and steering parts are prone to fail if they havent already been sorted being as they are an old car and a simple job like changing a bottom arm or steering linkage bush can lead to a full rebuild as they have a steering box and not a rack.

as long as everything is working ok and suspension and steering idlers and arms are ok they are a very good car.
