Barclays Bank on Whislteblower last night

What a shocking undercover expose of Barclays.

hardly any securty checks on staff.

staff bullied into making sales and misselling products
traineds who dislike their customers quote whe n traing
"i don't know you and i don't care about you" when talking about his attiitude to customers.
Illegal goings on, fraudulent accounts being created by bent staff to name but a few problems.

Not sure this is just Barclays issue although i am glad i do not bank with them!

girl-in-a-scoob 22 March 2007 09:07 AM

No it isnt an isolated issue... I resigned from one of the big four for these reasons.. and it wasnt barclays

Jamo 22 March 2007 09:14 AM

ive seen worst than that at the bank I worked for.

turboman786 22 March 2007 09:16 AM

Not sure why this comes as such a surprise......banks have ALWAYS been utterly ruthless in their pursuit of huge profits.......

Luminous 22 March 2007 09:25 AM

I would have to agree that I did not find those "revelations" shocking. All the banks that I have experience of keep trying to sell my extra products of some description or other. They know my circumstances, and that anything that they are offering me is of no use, but will in the end cost me money.

I've had 3 calls from the same person where I bank now about these extra services. I had to tell her very firmly that if she called again I would have to put in a complaint about her. I don't expect to be hassled into taking an account that costs me £x per month to give benefits that are of utterly no use to me.

CrisPDuk 22 March 2007 09:36 AM

It certainly isn't just Barclays:nono:

Many years ago I left a Yorkshire based bank, that was then a building society, for these reasons.

The pressure that was put on you to bully customers into buying extra stuff was immense:mad: The management didn't care that all most customers want to do is pay money in or withdraw it.

IMO pressure selling only alienates people anyway:nono:

Yep.I only rang up for a redemption figure recently. That was all I wanted.Nothing else.

At the end of the call and the invites to have this and that and the other life enhancing bank products i thought....I can't face ever ringing those eejuts ever again

I was told by my bank - I cannot say who but a Black Horse features - yesterday that I was 'DUE' my Financial review!!!

WHAT?? Like 'DUE' an eye test?? Like 'DUE' a Dental Check??

Just an excuse to get into your house one evening and sell you some product - it's a disgrace!! And they always wrap it up by calling it a 'Free Personal Service to our Valued Customers'!!

Luckily I am a bit long in the tooth to fall for such drivel ;)

while the bank may not be the best to do it...yes, due means due. Only its probably more important than your dental check - people can eat with no teeth but they cant eat with no pension.

At one point they were talking about charges. I thought I heard that banks were not allowed to profit from some charges e.g. £30 for being o/d. Did I hear this correctly? Some biddy specialised in finding out what these "charges" actually cost the bank and I think the o/d letter and charge really cost just a couple of quid.

Dad to son in far off land. "Son - I'm taking you to a place called the UK where I will teach you all about scamming, especially on e-bay and how to clone things. Then when you've learnt all that your Auntie is going to get you a job in a nice English bank where you will be in charge of issuing Visa cards. Don't worry they never check references. We're going to be rich kid!" :thumb:

Snug Rhino - I think Pete means that when you are as old as him and living on state benefits then there probably isn't much that can done with your finances

Banks do tend to miss the bigger picture when selling financial products, particularly when it comes to IHT.

Pete means that Pete is more than able to sort his own finances out .... don't need to pay some Banker to do it for him :lol1:
