2 pot brakes
 

I have a Sport and I would like to fit some 2 pot brakes to improve the stock singles.

Where can I source a set from that are in extreamly good condition, if not brand new?

If you want 2 pots you can find loads on here or Eblag. Put a post in the wanted section perhaps. I really don't think that they'll give a huge inprovment though, believe me, I've got them on my WRX. Saying that though it would be a cheap upgrade for you, and later you could combine them with say mintex pads and some grooved disc's. What I'm doing is saving my time and money for some 4 pots and suitable disc's. If you decide to change your mind be aware that the 4 pots use a different size disc. You'll need at least a 16 inch wheel (not all 16's work, I'm sure the standard gold Subaru ones are okay) to sit them behind.

Any set will clean up easily and are easy to fit new seals to if need be. Brand new i'd be asking Subaru, get ready for a heart attack.

Ideally I would like 4pots, but they won't fit behind these alloys that i have just had refurbed . I am told that they will fit if i put spacers in :wonder: :confused:

So 2 pots would be fine along with my drums at the rear.

How much could brands new subaru two pots be worth? £250-£300?

What size alloys do you have?

I can't see any issues with running 2 pots along side rear drums.

I'm not sure about the price new from Subaru, I do however know that 1no 4pot caliper is £350 brand new. You can get a pair of used 2 pots for next to nothing if you keep a look out. I'm talking less than £50. I can't see the point in sending all that money on a new set when second hand ones are so so cheap. It's likely that they'll be in very good working order but even if there're not a refurb really is easy peesy..

They look like 15"s to me.
I gave my 2 pots away so as dan says if you get charged more than £50 they're taking the piss.
If you buy a 2nd hand set and they are grimey just get them polished up (i'm lucky as i have a polishing shop here i work) they come up a treat, then a quick spalsh of hammerite on them and they'll be fine

I'll keep my open for some two pots.

I have just done a wanted for 2 pots. Next wednesday, I have my car booked into Scoobyclinic to fit springs, Borla, H&S exhaust, some bodywork etc. So perhaps I could ask them?

4 pots should fit under them.
If you're going to the clinic you may as well ask them.

A member has just asked PM'ed me regardinjg my 'wanted' post. He has the two pot calipers, discs and pads for £40 and he lives in bedford.

I don't know if by fitting subaru 4 pots the rear drums will be under powered and not cope, hence why I was thinking of 2pots? I need a brake expert?

Well speak to the clinic first but,imo, if you don't drive like a loon then the 2 pots should be fine spend some money on good quality discs/pads and a goodridge hose kit.
I changed mine simply, because ,coming down from 'ahem' speeds they were s**t and faded horribly even with uprated pads but for everyday driving they were fine.

The rear brakes don't actually do much of the braking under normal conditions, so fitting bigger front brakes without changing your rears will create no problems, in that respect. It's if you do it the other way round you start encountering problems, like the backs locking before the fronts come into play for instance:eek:

Having said that, you may want to check that your master cylinder has the capacity to move enough fluid to make 2 or 4 pots work properly. Scoobyclinic should be able to answer that one for you.

BTW if you can wait until I get back to the Uk in May, I've got a set of 2 pots with Red Stuff pads and Tar-Ox discs, that used to be fitted to the front of my XR4x4 (It seemed like a good idea when I upgraded the Legacy to 4 pots:)), that you can have for nothing if you collect.

Master cylinder is the same on all the Imprezas, regardless of caliper :)

Andi, mentioned on ISN about fitting rear discs as well. All this work, when I could save them time and effort and get a Turbo with this all done :idea:

I can't say that you'd see huge benefits by fitting rear disc's. Concentrate on the fronts for now. What Myblackwrx about fade on the 2 pots is true, its horrid when you put your foot on the brakes and fcuk all happens. If you are spending money anyway then get the 4's. The only place i've heard people say these fade is on the race track. I'm 90% sure that they'll go benenth your wheels as I saw a photo today with that same set up.

There are two different type of standard 16 inch Subaru alloys. The silver one aren't as wide in places so will not clear the 4 pot calipers. Standard gold 16's will.

Like I said before, 2 pots can be extremely cheap. Buy them, try them, like them or dislike them. You aint gonna lose a fortune in cash. So go for it..

AFAIK - the colour of the wheels is not important with regard to whether the 4 pots will ffit or not :lol1:

With the 16" standard subaru wheels - the style that is shown on the link to the black car with silver wheels where the spokes widen at the rim end (Terzo style) - these will take 4 pots. - I have some like that (in gold ;) ). The gold ones shown in the picture with the blue car (Catalunya style) narrow all the way to the rim end, I have been told that 4 pots will not fit under those... :thumb:

No need to laugh :nono: . I went through loads of threads and that's the best info I could find. No mention of wheel sizes anywhere, just standard wheel colours.
