GoodYear F1s
Changing to Goodyear F1 GSD3s on the fronts tomorrow on my MY01 WRX, based on general recommendations here. The Toyo T1Rs I have on now have plenty central tread left but the shoulders are completely finished. I am not too convinced about their wet weather performance either. Around £91 fitted, so not too bad on price. Good choice?

Thats not a bad price the cheapest I could find was £92.5 fitted this was a couple of days ago.
In the end I went for Avon ZZ3's just because of the price, £73 fitted. |
Eagles are a good tyre, funny you thought that about the Toyo`s, i thought they were good in the wet :lol1: :lol1:
|
I had Toyo's on my old scoob but have the Goodyear F1's on this one and i think the F1's are better all round. Far more grip, wet or dry:)
|
Agree they're good tyres, but make sure you get the 91Y load rating. There have been stories of people getting the lower load rating and having problems (do a search).
Not so impressed with the prices you're quoting; I'm looking to change mine shortly and the cheapest I've found is £78/corner, with a couple of others offering in the £80s. |
Agree with Hades re the 91 rating - although I've found the shoulders on my Toyo T1Rs to be tougher than the thoses of the Goodyears I've had before and the wet weather grip to be excellent on both tyres.
Will be interested to hear what you think of them ! |
F1s were the best tyres I had on the Scoob. Might be worth getting the tracking / geometry checked at the same time. You shouldn't get uneven wear unless the tyres have been used really hard.
|
Agree
FIs are the best tyre I have also used on my scoob. F1s just have the edge over Toyos for me. Steve |

Personaly I always put the best tyres on the backs - for an understeering car on the road. |

If BOTH edges of BOTHn tyres are worn, what pressure have you had in them? That's a sure sign of too low a pressure, isn't it?

whoa,:eek2: wait a minute, why are you changing just the fronts, all tires on an AWD car must be the same size, width, brand, pattern and treadwear(meaning if you have 5000 miles on a set and get 1 flat, you must replace all 4) it says this in your manual, if not you may damage the tranny, and center diff!
please for the sake of your car, change all 4 |
I've had 2 sets of F1's in the past and I'm now running Toyo's, have to say the F1's are much better in both the dry and the wet, they also lasted a good 7k more miles. The toyo's just don't like standing water even worse when on the motorway, in fact it was quite scary!!!! this was with a good 6mm of tread on them and doing 60MPH.
I'm about to change tyres again and will be going back to F1's And as above, you should change all 4 |
92Y
I have just bought F1s but in 18' they are 92Y's are these ok ??:wonder:

This Toyo T1R/Goodyear F1 debate is on going, I still can`t decide what brand to get. It seems like 6 and half a dozen to me! :wonder: I also think that both worn outer edges is down to too low pressures!
|
F1's def for me. Car handled like a dream. Bought my STI PPP with Bridgestones on standard and it was scary!!!

You only have to keep the tyres the same on the same axle.
I have had that many flat tyres with my Subaru its unreal. One time I had 4mm on one tyre and the other on that axle was flat so i changed both. But you do not need to change all 4. Although you are correct in what the manual states. Subaru manual does say all 4. |

It's a thumbs up!
Run the F1's now for 200 miles. The 'feel' is improved and the slight steering wheel shake at Motorway speeds has gone. In answer to queries on the shoulder wear. Tyres were correctly inflated and checked regularly. I have Pzero Neros on the back with loads of tread wear left and have no complaints with them at all.

For anyone looking for new F1s: I just got 4 fitted for £361.68 from Event Tyres, and being mobile they come to you - all done in my lunch hour.

I've just had mine fitted today, Goodyear are complety out of stock in the uk of 215/35/18. I had a quote from Kwikfit for £400 fitted but they just couldn't get them.
Ordered through Mytyres last Thursday and they arrived this morning, A couple of tyres places wouldn't touch them due to the profile but kwikfit did a really good job, they took alot of care with the alloy and not a mark on them and they only charged £10 a corner to fit, balance and dispose of the old one. They need scubbing in but I'm glad to be shot of the toyo's, worst tyre I've had on the scoob. I did alot of ringing around last week and most tyre fitters are not that impressed with the toyo's. A few claimed they were not a premuim brand and over priced for what they are!!!!!! |
