Selling my Scooby! What's it worth?

Right, after 4.5 fabulous years of ownership, the time has come to part with my Scooby. My circumstances have changed, I've been promoted at work and am going to opt out of the Company Car Scheme and take the cash alternative and also trade in my Subaru in order to 'upgrade' my everyday car!

My Subaru is a 2002 WRX 'bugeye' in absolutely 'mint' condition with 45.5K miles and full service history, 12 months MOT and has just had a comprehensive service including Cambelt and all fluids. The car benefits from many professional modifications including the following:

TSL De-cat Centre Sections,
Group N Back Box,
Green Panel Filter,
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump,
Turbosmart Dualport Dump Valve,
STi8 Top-mount Intercooler & JDM STi7 Under-tray / Splitter,
Intercooler Water Spray with JDM Twin Jets
(electronically controlled),
Samco Turbo Hoses,
Zerosports Cool Radiator,
Uprated Battery (60Ah),
EcuTek Remap @ 1.25 bar (dual maps, lower @
0.8 bar) by Richard Bulmer.

Suspension:
Prodrive / Eibach 25mm Lowering Springs,
Powerflex Rear Drop Links,
Front Strut-Brace,
Group N Geometry Settings,
Toyo T1R Tyres - 215/45/17 (all as new).

Brakes:
Group N Drilled & Grooved Front Disc's,
Front & Rear Ferodo DS2500 Pads,
Goodridge Braided Brake Hoses
(Stainless Steel end fittings),
Motul 5.1 Brake Fluid.

Styling - Exterior:

Prodrive Rear Spoiler,
Front DRM Splitter,
Colour Coded Side Skirts,
STi7 Bonnet Scoop,
Clear Side Indicators,
Windscreen Tinted Sun Shade,
STi Pink Subaru Logo's,

Front Grill (Upper & Lower) Mesh Shields,
WRX Side Graphic's.

Styling - Interior:
ATI Defi Style Centre Gauge Pack
(Boost, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure),
Knocklink,
Fire Extinguisher,
Aluminium Gear Surround,
Momo Gear Knob,
Blue Neon's,
Mobile Phone Car Kit.

ICE:
Clarion Double Din Headunit & Remote,
Front & Rear Sony Xplod Speakers,

So the BIG question is what is it worth? Trade in 'book price' for a standard car is approx. £7400. Now I know I won't recoup the large amount of money I've spent on mods but believe the car to be worth more than this especially if I sell privately rather than do a direct 'trade in'. What are people's views? I'm looking at putting this up for sale within the next few days.

what a cracking looking car, but as you have realised the mods you have done might not be to everyones cup of tea mate and so will not add much value to the car, they might even have the opposite effect which seems wrong really.
Good luck with the sale though:)
I wouldnt insult you with a value as I am clueless on these sorts of things:rolleyes: but I a sure someone will be along to let you know

If you can get a prospective buyer out to view this car I think you could ask £7800 ONO. It looks a case of first to see will buy! Nice car.

Rob.

Apologies I have cleared some room in my PM box now! Not sure if your PM will still find it's way through or need re-sending?

Rob.

To be honest this is what I thought people might say.

My situation is simple, the car (according to Glasses Guide) is worth £7400 as a 'trade in'. I have managed to get an offer of £8500 with a BMW dealership. This is quite attractive as I'd have no problems advertising, no tests drives etc. etc.

The car is worth approx. £9500 on a fourcourt (again according to Glasses Guide) but in standard spec. I would only be interested in selling privately if I was going to be getting this kind of money or more for the car. The car has approx. £2000 worth of Genuine Subaru options / accessories apart from the listed performance modifications. I undertsand that I will not recover the large amount I have spent on this but believe it has got to be worth a premium over a standard car for the right person.

The car is absolutely mint - equally as good if not better than it looks in the pictures. It has been my pride and joy for the past 4.5 years. I have dozens of supporting receipts totalling £1000's for the professional mods I have had carried out, most of which have been done by TSL / Richard Bulmer. The car drivers flawlessly and is an excellent balance between driveability and performance. Power is estimated to be in the high 200's (approx. 280bp+) with similar torque.

There are a few reasons for me selling. Firstly I had the arrival of a little baby girl towards the end of last year. As a result the car has only covered approx 3K miles in the past 12 months. Also, whilst very practicle for what they are it doesn't now have a big enough boot for my needs with having the little one. Also, I have been promoted at work and am opting out of the Company Car Scheme and taking the cash alternative. I intend to either trade in the Subaru or sell privately to obtain a more realistic value. I have paid a deposit on a new 5 Series M Sport BMW, which I think suits my current needs better.

Thank-you for your kind comments. I have always looked after my cars, but this one has had special treatment since the day I bought it and I will be gutted to see it go, but the time is right for me to move on. I have many happy memories of this car, it has never let me down once - but then again it has been maintained regardless of cost!

Immaculate car!

I could be interested once ive seen the bank manager on wednesday:wonder:

But if you wouldn't mind dropping me a pm with the figure your looking at for the car and I'll get back to you that way?
Im looking for a uk300 but yours is so clean!:)

bob r 12 March 2007 09:39 PM

I reckon 8.5k is achievable. Loads of good mods which will save the new owner the trouble.

pslewis 12 March 2007 11:50 PM

Looks like an Import, is it?

Rip the PINK badge off the front and add a few £££££'s

Looks very nice I must say - I can just imagine my heart dropping when the Insurance Broker says, "Any Mods, Sir?" :lol1: :lol1:

Dr.P 13 March 2007 10:31 AM

I would agree with bob r think you should be looking around the 8.5 to 9k no probs looks a nice clean car.

In answer to your first question - this car is a Euro Import built to UK spec. Was imported from Belgium by the previous owner. This has never caused me any problems, neither in insurance terms or maintenance.

Granted the Pink badge won't be to everyones taste - this is easily changed and I do have the original badge anyway.

Thanks for your comments - it has been looked after. With regards to the insurance, you are correct - a lot of mods to declare. However, I've not found this to be too much of a problem when going through specialists such as A Plan / Greenlight / Keith Michaels. My current years insurance was approx. £600 with all mods declared (and I'm 29). Not too bad considering these cars are in group 19 to start with.
