Spec c vs m5
 

Not sure if this has been posted before but the spec c leaves the m5 for dust at the start.

Yeah, but you have to love the way it powers past :D

It doesn't help that the M5 driver lets it spin up through the whole of 1st.
If he'd of granny launched it the spec C would have got an even bigger kicking :D

Yeah for some reason the nab in the m5 decides to keep it wheel spinning all the way through first gear, then when it grips in 2nd, it powers past with so much ease its scary

Theres a vid a few below that one of an m5 racing an f430.. nothing in it at all!! M5's really are impressive!!

The M5 Driver must of been feeling super confident to keep the rears lighted up..
It just rocketed past lol..M5s are a bit rapid to say the least

0-100-0 times for you:

STi (not Spec C) - 18.4s
M5 - 15.3s

Doubt that there's much in it 0-100-0 Spec C vs M5.

Dont standard spec C's only put out 320 ish - how many leave them at that?

without keep going on i (well we) had a bit of fun with an M6, me in my modded classic and another member in his modded STi - now i'm not saying the M6 was not faster as i am sure once into silly speeds i.e 130+ it would dusted the 3 of us but the STI kept with it easily and yes the M6 driver was trying.

Its not just about outright power its how it gets there i.e. the Scoob has great gobfuls of torque that an M5/M6 just cannot match.

& once you throw in a few twisties ... :wonder: where's the M5?

Not to mention value vs power you could get 2 scoobies tuned spot on for the price of an M5 and nearly 3 for the price of an M6 but if you had 80K to spend would you get an M6...

Well after Juggers on here kindly let me take his modded Spec 'C' for a spin i was hooked - ok i've never drove an M5/M6 but the Spec C was like a scalpel - what a tool.

ok maybe not as classy but i know what car i'd rather drive for pure enjoyment

no offence to anyone but ive been out in one of the new m5's and i would take it any day over an impreza. My classic was running around 350bhp and it would not have been a touch on the m5! The car truelly amazed me. The only thing that i would consider in its league from all the hype is an type 25 (i haven't been in one but from what ive heard they are pretty impressive also). After being in the m5 i can't imagine an impreza getting any where near it!!

A Classic running 350bhp is almost comparable in bhp per ton to an M5/M6

but like i said its not all down to outright power its the torque per weight.
admittedley it was a few car lengths ahead of me and i've no doubt that if the speeds had gotten silly i would hav had my ass handed to me. i'm just saying what i saw from my seat is a modded STi stayed with an M6 no problem.

Ok dont believe how quick an STi is - check out the same car chasing a upgraded 911 Turbo at Donnington which is a very fast track....

Come on guys, lets be realistic here.
the new M5 has a 5 litre V10, 500bhp and will hit 100mph in 10.4secs.
You'd need an insane setup in an impreza to match that :cuckoo:
Then you have the fact that it's a luxury saloon and I mean LUXURY thats's capable of 200mph.
If you can live with the costs then this thing has all the bases covered without any of the compromises of an aftermarket tuned car.
TX, I hate to say it but, unless you're willing to drive like a complete nut there's no way you'd lose one in the twisties. Not even driving a great car like the WRlimited :norty:
(just to keep it clear, yes I drive a subaru :D)

According to Evo, a Spec C will hit 100 in 11.1 seconds.

I've never drove an M5 and yes i've no doubt that they are a stupidly quick car - but how many people leave their Impreza as the factory intended?

Not many i can tell you, and having personally drove a nicely modded Spec 'C' it simply blew me away. Power from f*** all and just an immense rush to the redline, and as for the handling and the brakes - Wow the brakes - coming from a Classic (even with uprated brakes) it felt in the Spec C as if my eyeballs were coming out of my sockets, an absolutely fantastic car which left me p***ed off for days - 'cos i'll never be able to buy one:(

I own a spec C and have driven both the current and last model M5s. The M5 is a very impressive car: very comfortable, very quiet and very fast. And a bit boring to be honest (if 500bhp could ever be boring). Driving it with traction control and all the other electronic aids feels too easy and turning them all off left me feeling very unsure about what the car was going to do.

I can see the attraction of an M5 for some people but, for me, the raw feel of the C wins every time ... its not just about 0-100 times or bhp figures, its about the size of the grin on your face when thrash the nuts off it!

I don't know about the latest M5 but I drove the previous generation at the Prodrive Proving Ground back to back with my C. There was no contest on the rally circuit ... the M5 just couldn't get up to speed and was way slower through the corners. On the tower circuit (with two very long straights) the M5 was still slower although not by so much. The M5 acceleration from 20-130 was incredible but the C was carrying so much more speed through the corners (one straight is preceded by a hairpin, the other by a chicane) that the top end speed was about the same. And you can brake sooo much later in the C ...

I've driven the latest M5 on the roads but not on a track ... trying to persuade my mate who owns one to come to the Nurburgring with me ...

I would have thought that the sort of person who'd be able to afford, buy / drive an M5 isnt really concerned about 0-60 or 0-100 they just have the money to buy a comfortable, fast 4 seater car with all the toys. They probably considered it over an equally powerful mercedes or something along those lines. They also might have a track or road car for the weekends just for a bit of fun.

From my experience (on the road) I always use to run out of balls way before my M5 ran out of talent :o

The 'rally circuit' is a tarmac circuit that's a lot more twisty and un-even than the 'tower circuit' ... its not a gravel track. The roads around where I live are very similar in terms of conditions to the rally circuit. I've driven my mate's new-model M5 around these roads and I could not push it as hard as the C ... its just too big and heavy.

Of course on smoother, straighter roads the M5 will be much better but the point I was responding to was about those mythical 'twisties' ... the twisties I know and love give the M5 problems.

Trying to justify you're M5 purchase :D
