what is this on classic manifold?

On the weekend a friend and I were working on his 97 impreza. We saw this on the intake manifold but dont know what its for. a hose of some sort should be connected to it. when engine is running, placing a finger on top of it feels like a vaccum, and idle is lower. release it and the idle rises a bit

whats this for? and if it should be connected to something, where to?

I think it can be used for a boost gauge pipe, Mine has already got a pipe on it so  at the moment.

It's a pressure take off point, it should be connected to something or it should have a cap on it to blank it off. It defentally shouldn't just be open like that. My car has a different inlet manifold so I don't know exactly what that one is for. But someone will.

I say you want to block it off pronto, unfiltered air ! Took my boost gauge hose from there, should have blind end tube on it.

It usually connects a pipe that runs to the purge control solenoid valve.....

Its was blanked off on my 97uk scoob with a black rubber cap. Get some tube for over it and crimp the end for the time being.

Andy.

ok so you think i should run a pipe to the purge control solenoid valve. all the hoses are disconnected from the car. so another pipe from wastegate control solenoid valve to intake. and another pipe between turbo and wastegate. correct? cause I was going to do a T-connection between wastegate turbo and wastegate control solenoid valve.

thanks all for input

WRXTek 05 March 2007 11:11 PM

or maybe I should just block it

Comper100 05 March 2007 11:54 PM

Yeah the boost solenoid valve goes to 1: The t peice between the turbo outlet and the wastegate actuator. 2: the in inlet manifold.

The purge control solenoid connects to the one were on about, if you don't want the purge system then just block it.
