AUDI S4 VS STI TSL 333
My old man is putting a deposit down on an MY03 Audi S4 this morning.
I have an STi 8 with TSL 333 (330 bhp.) So, what is fastest then? Do I need to modify mine further to show him a clean set of heals? scoob should be comfortably faster ,the audi is way to heavy .

Scooby would be a bit quicker initially then once into three fighures you wouldn't see the S4 for dust.

As above - Scoob off the line. Once running and up to some half-decent speeds, the Audi will be off into the distance.
Just take comfort that the STI will be fun in the twisties :) I love my S4, but it's not a B-road muncher by any means...... DAn :) |
I'm not sure about this high speed fable with modest powered (300-350 BHP) German cars like M3, S4, although the RS6 and E60 M5 certainly do the business at speed. The real point where a 340 BHP TD05 MY00 UK Scooby that I mapped started to embarrass my E46 M3 was when the Scooby could actually hold onto a longer gear with its short 6 speed gearbox. This was the opposite to what we expected. In lower gears with no lag and fast gearchanges the M3 was similar despite much higher weight even off a wet roundabout with an inferior driver (me). However, the GDB STIs are heavier than the old GC8, and often optimistic in their PPP/aftermarket power figures, even at speed they've never impressed me unless they have serious power. Odd as the weight should matter less at speed.

Not the normal M3, not tried the CSL.
The normal one was too bouncy, didn't stop or go well enough. Cornered well on flat smooth tarmac. It rattled more than expected and wasn't refined enough considering the compromises it had in performance. |
So, my old man picked up the S4 today - lovely car!! He took me out for a spin and gave me a drive as well (well chuffed!!!)
It seems a bit flat low down the revs where the scoob is really biting, however, after about 4k, it all changes. I did not take it much above 5k, however could tell the S4 had loads more to go. Oh, and the sound is fantastic!!! I have agreed to do a 'head to head' with the old man this weekend (weather permitting) and will post some results up then, perhaps with a couple of pics....... |

We started off as follows: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d7...3/DSCF0024.jpg Once filled up with juice, we set off, me in front in the Scoob followed by the old man in his S4. I nailed it first joining the motorway and seemed to be puling away up through 2nd, 3rd, 4th, red lining each time. We slowed down for traffic and I let him past. We are now up to motorway speeds and the traffic clears. The weather is awful and there is not much in it. We turned off onto some B roads and I am still following. It certainly did not get away. We then jumped back in with me in front this time. Mine seemed to pull away a bit although I do not think my old man was trying as much by now. We then swapped and hit a few dual cariageways, passing each other at high revs etc with windows down (you know the drill!!) Finally, we stopped by an industrial estate to demonstrate drive bys of eachof the cars. The Scoob was sounding sweet of course, the S4 also great although a good bit quieter and refined (although sweet as a nut!!!) This took about 45 mins - 1hr and we used up a bit of fuel!! I will now pass you over to my old man for some comments hopefuly unbiased!!!) I think Scoob is faster at least up to about the ton. Thereafter who knows - I think we should go up to Knockhill for some fun where we can wind things up a bit legally. If you just want acceleration with good handing the scoob comes out tops for the money you spend. The Audi build quality feels superior, and there is nothing like the roar of the V8.
