For those who have fitted aftermarket seats/mounts

Got any details on what you've used to mount the seats to the floor? Or even any pics?

I was thinking of having the side mounts bolted to a couple of steel tubes or box sections, that would then be welded to the floor, but i'm unsure if extra metal is needed to be welded to the floor, to spread the load a bit..

drb5,I was down at powerstation this morning and I popped next door to Litchfields and had a look at a spec-c which had recaro carbon fiber seats fitted I had a quick look at how they had been fitted looked like the side mounts had been welded to the origional seat rails.Give Ian a ring on monday he might be able to help

I have done it both ways.
1
Fabricate a set of mounts for the (Sparco) side brackets, drill a series of holes 20mm spacing to get the comfort just right.
Advantage with this is you can sit a full 50mm lower in the car. (makes the sunvisors a bit limited)
2
Bought a cheap pair of Sport seats, gutted them and welded till I had the metalwork ready for the Sparco side plates and still have the factory fitting and runners for mega adjustment.
Dissadvantage? You sit at stock height.
More work that you might imagine
3
Bride in Japan do a nice runner, adjustable as stock but a little lower.

This is my drivers seat. I bought this off ebay for £20

The passenger seat is fixed and as low as it can go and I made the bracket. I will remove the seat before racing

OMP do a fixed mounting bracket for shell seats that bolts to the original seat mounting points on the floor and transmission tunnel, but this doesn't allow for/aft movement without unbolting the seat from the mounting, do you need it adjustable??

No, but you do need it comfortable, and that is the trick here.
Knumb legs are not good after 10 miles!

But with the OMP brackets plus the correct side mount brackets you do have adjustability, just not on the move, but TBH how many people move their seat whilst driving, not exactly the safest thing to do, and if you get a decent seat and set it up right you shouldn't get numb legs/feet.

Thanks guys.

Wasn't going to get it adjustable at all, but i have the old GL seats still here, so i may chop them up, to see how low and comfortable i can make it.

The adjustable part of the seats may help to get in and out of the car, if i go and fit the door bars to the roll cage.
