Anyone heard of a Racing Driver Called Ben Collins??

Because he is the Stig off Top Gear!!!!!!!!

richie001 02 March 2007 08:42 PM

i have he is or was a f1 test driver

Bubba po 02 March 2007 08:42 PM

Wasn't it Ben Collins who was driving the Evo down the muddy hill on the Best of TG last night? :)

Scoob99 02 March 2007 08:45 PM

Bubba, you are right well he's the Stig too:D

Nido 02 March 2007 09:05 PM

Err, this has been known for ages??!?

He's been in the show (as a "real" person) a few times - racing the evo down the hill, driving the merc that some bloke was trying to land in the back of as two examples.

I think there are a few more but can't remember of the top of my head :D

Don't think he has ever been an F1 test driver though? The Renault F1 item around the top gear track was Heikki Kovalainen in "Stig" clothing!

The Snug Rhino 02 March 2007 09:09 PM

That bloke Hammond who nearly died in the jet car......he's only the same bloody hammond thats on Top Gear! Two exclusives on one thread :D

RJMS 02 March 2007 09:12 PM

He drove in ASCAR for a couple of seasons - seem to remember he was racing in the USA last season but I may be wrong.

You'll find there are many different Stig's, many of the exotica are driven by manufacturer drivers

Onan The Barbarian 02 March 2007 09:51 PM

I've heard that Ben Collins is The Stig too.

He's actually been on Top Gear several times without his helmet on

This is he

Wouldn't have thought that was the case, the manufacturer will want the car to be as fast as possible. An airfield track like that takes a lot of learning to go really quick as there is no "natural" line.

I think a driver that knows the track inside out will go faster in an un-familiar car than a driver in a familiar car that doesn't know the track.

Hence the whole point of having the Stig (apart from obvious stuff like the F1 / snowmobile jump). Not sure on the Aston DBR9 driver? :wonder:

mrtheedge2u2 03 March 2007 12:07 AM

Ben Collins was "The Stig" a few seasons ago, until racing commitments got in the way..... now "The Stig" is a number of people and one of them isn't Ben Collins.

Sorry guys didn't know it was common knowledge, it's just where my wife works Porsche go in there because they use Millbrook test track and one of the drivers told her, so I thought I'd tell you lot, Won't bother next time:D
Cheers
Colin

I wonder how many of those tyre ripping smoking slide demonstrations are actually done by JC himself when he is describing it all to us from the driver's seat!

I've heard they're introducing a new, quicker internet option call 'broadband'

You heard it here 1st....

fast bloke 05 March 2007 12:35 AM

What is this 'internet' you speak of?

fatherpierre 05 March 2007 12:38 AM

It's where your sinclair spectrum (only the 48k ones) can link up with other speccy owners.

Lots of colour clash but you can look at crude outlines of women with no clothes on.

smithy 7 05 March 2007 12:39 AM

no its perry mccarthy
he is the le mans 24h audi R8 driver read it today in a audi mag

Sonic' 05 March 2007 12:49 AM

wasn't Perry McCarthy the 1st Stig ?

Anyway another top news item, vinyl is to be replaced with something called a 'cd' or compact disc whereby music is stored 'digitally' onto a small disc

Na, the cd thing is a myth. Wouldn't the needle scratch the surface of the cd and ruin it.

It'll never happen.

You'll be claiming that diesel cars can match the performance of petrol ones next.
