Forester 2.0 XT K&N air filter query 33-2232 ?

Can someone confirm the correct K&N panel filter for 2005 Forester 2.0 XT is 33-2232

Also, is it easy to fit, printed instructions from K&N make a right meal of it, removing throttle cable, hose clamps, removing airbox, replace filter etc etc.

Can it be done more easily than this, I assumed it could be done with airbox in place, just undoing clips and swapping filter ??

Tips appreciated.

same part number as the impreza one.

It is a simple swap , just whip the old one out and replace, making sure the tabs at the back of the airbox locate properly or you'll be drawing in unfiltered air.

So is that part number 33-2232

You say easy to swap, is it just unclip airbox lid and change, or do you need to unclip throttle cable and hoses, undo clamps to air hoses, remove airbox, open and change filter then reverse ?

Last time I just gave it to Len @ Subaru4you and said "drop that in please " :D

I think it's just an unclip. I vaguely remember removing the top of the airbox by loosening it from the induction tract just before the MAF sensor to get in and give the inside a quick wipe over.

Just a note to say I tried to fit the K&N filter, but as the rim is much thicker than the original filter (which can be removed using your fingers to unclip the airbox lid only), it cannot be fitted the normal way.

The instructions K&N provide ask you to unclip the throttle and coolant hoses, unbolt the airbox and remove from car, to allow you to jam the tabs in round the thicker filter rim, and force it closed before re-assembling the car.

This is crazy, and I can't see how they can call this a 'direct replacement'.

Can anyone recommend an alternative cotton air filter panel which is a direct replacement (ie unclip and remove original filter, insert new filter and close/clip airbox lid) ??

I found fitting the replacement K&N panel filter to my MY99 a pig of a job - like has been said, it's got a thicker rim.

I would love to be but cannot access that forum, from work I just get page not found, from home I get forum front page with 'server busy please try later'.

Sounds like it works fine for everyone else, so I won't take it personally !
