email related to a purchased domain name

If you purchase a domain name, and then you have all email addresses for that name (e.g. anything@domain.com), how do you set up email so you can actually send from those addresses?

Receiving is ok, as you can just forward to an existing one, but if you were to reply, it would be confusing as it would obviously not be from an address they were expecting.

Can you do it with POP3, or does it have to be webmail, and does it cost or can you do it for nowt?

Isn't this a function of your email program? You just enter the appropriate return email address into the program before sending any email.

it's on your e-mail client - you need to change the "from" and the "reply to" fields - this is usually changed in the "account settings" bit

Not all web mail will allow you to do this - ie has to be @yahoo or whatever

mmm, I tried to do it thru googlemail on POP3, and although I have the correct email address set in the account options, it still arrives at the destination as my googlemail name.

Aha! When I do it through my plusnet account, it works fine!

Sounds like googlemail won't let you do it then. I know things like Outlook will...

It is to do with your SMTP server.
Most SMTP (outgoing) mail servers will only allow email to be sent using the same domain you collect from.
Some will have 'collect before send' which means that as you logged in to collect, you must be an authorised user therefore you can send.

If it doesnt work then you need to find a relay server.
