WTD: PCI-E Graphics Card

Anyone got a PCI-E graphics card they are looking to sell ? Don't want anything too fancy. Nvidia preferred, something like the 7600GT.

HOOPS78 28 February 2007 08:34 PM

go on to ebay got the 7600gt 256 for 69 quid brand new grt little card

lightning101 28 February 2007 09:46 PM

ebuyer.com - Graphics Cards » Graphics Cards Nvidia » nVIDIA GeForce 7 Series » Product details

7600GS £59 inc vat

DJ Dunk 28 February 2007 10:46 PM

Thanks. I'd looked at both of those. Is the GT really worth the extra over the GS ?

Iain Young 01 March 2007 09:45 AM

I've got 2 eVGA 512mb 7800GTX cards doing nothing at the moment, (I've just upgraded to an 8800GTX). No idea what they're worth 2nd hand. They've got no instructions / driver discs etc (they're what was in the machine when I bought it), but they're in excellent condition if you're interested :)

DJ Dunk 01 March 2007 10:09 AM

Thanks for the offer Ian. If you're willing to split them and the price is similar to the above then I'd be interested. I'd suspect they're best kept as a pair though.

Iain Young 01 March 2007 10:13 AM

I've no problem with splitting them, and I'd be willing to let them go for around the £70 mark (+postage - unless you want to pick it up)

lightning101 01 March 2007 10:20 AM

That's a great price ian

Iain Young 01 March 2007 10:25 AM

That's each ;)

It's better than them gathering dust on the shelf :)

lightning101 01 March 2007 10:48 AM

I bought the 8800GTX at the same time as you, feck me what a card :)

Only problem is that 3D Studio 9 doesn't fully support all the vista DDR options in the GUI and I have to set it to basic display mode to run, so it lags in the interface. :( Open GL is fine though :)

lightning101 01 March 2007 10:55 AM

Evga will give you full retail value back for your cards against the 8800 series mate, i'd check that out first :)

Iain Young 01 March 2007 10:55 AM

Ah, I'm using Lightwave 9 and it works fine with that :D

But yes, it's a beast of a card for sure :)

Didn't know that. I've bought an OC BFG 8800, so I guess the deal won't count...

I take it these are pci express cards? I've only got agp otherwise i'd buy the second one off you if dunk was only having one.

DJ Dunk 02 March 2007 09:37 AM

Thanks Iain, got it today :) Will proceed to get annoyed with flaky Vista drivers a bit later on :o

Iain Young 02 March 2007 09:50 AM

Hope you like it Dunk :) I got an email from NVidia saying there's a new driver coming out in the next few days which hopefully should fix most of the remaining issues...

************** - Yes sorry, it's PCI-E only...

Dieseldog 02 March 2007 11:17 AM

That IS a good price for a 512 7800 (for the buyer). I saw one (XFX's) go on ebay for £180 just before Christmas - I bid up to £100 but it just went daft.

Edit: although, frankly, I'm amazed it took you this long to upgrade Iain...

Yep Dunk got a definite bargin, (although they're not selling for quite that much on eBay any more).

p.s. I took so long to upgrade because I was waiting for some decent Vista drivers to appear first. Tempted to get a second one now so I can SLI them :D

DJ Dunk 02 March 2007 01:55 PM

Its installed no problems and has certainly bumped up my Vista Windows Experience Index where it was lacking :D

Not much to go on, but well pleased so far :D

Iain Young 02 March 2007 01:59 PM

Excellent news :D

Must do something about mine. The ram benchmark is only 4.6 :(

DJ Dunk 02 March 2007 02:02 PM

More detail . . .

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/DJDunk/WEI2.jpg

Not a bad for a mid range machine. The RAM is Geil DDR2 Ultra Low Latency (Cas 4) PC6400 sticks.

lightning101 02 March 2007 02:09 PM

I wonder when they will realise that 5.9 as the maximum score will soon run out when Direct X10 games come out :)

Nice set of scores though :thumb:

Iain Young 02 March 2007 02:09 PM

Hmm, the ram is definitely the bottleneck in my system (everything else gets the same score as you). At the moment it's got 4x 512mb Corsair XMS DDR-333 (PC-2700) sticks in it to give me 2gb ram. Unfortunately it will only take up to DDR-400 (PC-3200), but I'm thinking that if I get some of this and up it to 4gb, it should help a bit. It's either that or change the mobo (and ram)...

MattW 02 March 2007 02:23 PM

My PC is 5.0-5.9 on everything but Graphics which brings it down to 4.5 :( Running an ATi X1600 512mb at the mo, and it's adequate but not fantastic. I tend to turn down COD2 to directx 7.0 anyhow cos I hate the gun flashing on 9.

MS say:

The Windows Experience Index is designed to accommodate advances in computer technology. As hardware speed and performance improves, higher base scores will be introduced. However, the standards for each level of the index stay the same.

It's actually a known performance issue with Cod2 & DX9c
