DO CLASSICS ROT ????

Just a bit of a observation realy since taking mine apart for my front mount project i was suprised how clean it was under their no rot at all no bolts seized all preety good realy now if this would of been a ford or a vauxhall it would of been a differnt story
my question is is their any parts on the scoobie that are prone to rotting and need keeping an eye on even some extra protection to prevent this

cheers all KIP

Always worth adding protection. I have wayoiled cars i intend to keep, messy and smelly (the waxoil that is) but worth it imho. Takes around 30 mins to do a car. Do not get it on bits that get hot like the exhaust and keep off of the brakes.

Just had a look at your car and its an import. If it hasnt been in this country long, then the gritting salt hasnt had a chance to take effect......yet.

The Japanese either dont use salt or the majority of the country doesnt get cold enough to need it. Thats why their cars are in such good condition rust -wise when they come over here.

Mines an import bin in the country for 5 years i never wash it, and the local road are muddy and shty most of the year and no rust at all bin under the car as well and its fine.
recon the myth that imports are more prone to rust than uk cars is b0llx put about by dealers that didnt want the competition.

as for japan i gather they get the odd drop of snow frm time to time

They get the same weather conditions we do (excluding typhoons, earthquakes and tsunamis) but DON'T use salt on the roads (at least not in the cities) because they can efficently clear the roads of snow/ice at any time of day unlike over here.

While doing the exhaust the other day I noticed my antiroll bar, and the cross member next to it are just showing signs of rust. Not bad for a 13 year old car, even an import. Time to get the waxoil out.

139 veiws and 5 replys seems that rot is not much of an issue on the classics then think ill give it a good scrub down then wax oil it up :thumb:

mines a 93 wrx import. No rust underneath, but starting to go around the rear wheel arches

My 93 car is showing the very first signs of rust.
