KW variant 3 on new age STi

Has anyone got a set of KW variant 3`s on a new age? and if so what do you think of them..............better than any other make AST`s / Tein Flex etc, and of course the standard setup.

Thank in advance .:thumb:

I have these fitted to mine by Zak @ Mocomracing.com (your local specialist).

Am very happy with them. Lovely build quality, very adjustable from nice and comfy to rock solid. Mine is on a classic.

Top service from the boys at Mocom too.

Thanks BoB`5 Car looks good,:thumb:
I have seen your photos before and have already spoken to Zak about fitting to mine and he was getting me a price.

I am still looking for some before and after photos as well if you know of any on the new age cars, or of yours how they sit, height wise I mean?
And how easy to adjust the rears with any shelf problems etc...

Thanks again

Darren

Darren,

They are height adjustable so can be set VERY low and OE height too. Bump rebound is adjusted via the top of the strut and the rebound from the bottom.

None require removing the wheels. Rear bump would require seats out afaik unless you drilled a couple of small holes in the parcel shelf for regular adjusting.

Lovely bit of kit. Don't even consider jap spec coilovers.

Tell Zak I said hi :thumb:

Hi Bob :)

Adjustment is fairly straight forward and more importantly has a significant effect on your cars handling.

Rebound is adjusted at the top of the damper as found on many adjustble coil over systems, with low speed bump adjustment found at the bottom of the damper and high speed bump is factory set and cannot be altered.

IMHO to better the KW v3's you need to be spending a significant amount of money.........my current set-up costs in excess of 3k

I've had my KW 2-way comp coilovers on a 2004 USDM Sti for two years now and they are outstanding. I've ridden in other scoobs (and given many rides) and haven't found a better solution yet.

The 2-way comps are very similar to the variant 3, but have linear springs and you can get custom valving. They have become very popular in the U.S. I've got some videos of laps at the ring that attest to their quality.

Er,,, no they're not lol :(

Turns out that KW have stopped making the Variant 3 in its current format. They're being redesigned with remote reservoirs like the clubsport dampers.

This is great news as they will be a better damper but the bad news is i have to wait till August for them to be ready :(

Unless they have a set of clubsports in stock... i'll just pay the extra and have them instead.:lol1:

Frayz, EXE-TC you know it makes sense...............:norty:

dynamix 06 July 2007 08:25 PM

i'm with MADDOG on that :D

But, Clubsports would be an interesting comparison and a great system. Just be aware that there is no warranty on the clubsports from my chats with KW.

Guys, having done £1800 on APs amongst other things, as well as paying for a FMIC and Germany WRC in the near future the fact i put down the money for the V3s too.

I cant stretch to the Exe-Tcs and TBH, as i driver im sure the KWs will be more than enough for my needs.

If i can out drive a set of V3s..... i need a better car!!

You an`t wrong there frayz, had these fitted by Zak, and what a great bit of kit :norty:

Never felt more safe or stable and planted, and haven`t had a chance to alter them from the standard set up that Zak dialed in yet.

only down side 30-40 round town a little uncomfortable but a small price to pay I think. :thumb:
