Final Fantasy XII (PS2)

anyone give me a heads up on whether this is worth devoting all my free time too ? bearing in mind I need to purchase a PS2 aswell :)

rik1471 26 February 2007 06:16 PM

I don't know about this, but God of War 2 will be out soon and that's certainly worth buying a PS2 for.

scoobyverysoon 26 February 2007 06:24 PM

All FF games so far have rocked :luxhello: - no reason why this wont - go on get it :)

Hanslow 26 February 2007 09:59 PM

Red, I'm so far only 7.5 hours into it and barely scratched the surface. Storyline hasn't gone a huge way, but has so far been good :)

My first impressions are that it's better than X and X-2.

I'm preparing to lose another 90 odd hours on it before getting to the end ;)

Some slightly different concepts, gambits and licenses being the main ones, fighting in a more realtime style. Gambits allowing you to set auto actions for team members, and licenses a bit like the grid in X / X-2 but seems more interesting in how you advance around it. Not found a collectable card game in their yet, but I'm sure there will be one :D

A slightly biased opinion from a FF fan, but ask yourself how many have been bad ;)

God of War 2 will be on the purchase list for some light relief in between FF XII and finishing off Dirge of Cerberus (which isn't that good, more cutscene than action, but the missus insisted on buying me it :D)

Don't think any FF games will have the same instant impact as FF VII had. Amazing how much expression they managed to put into some small blocky characters. Best of the series by far, although I'd be interested in seeing a remake with upgraded visuals and gameplay, purely to see what they'd come up with :D

gotmashed 28 February 2007 09:17 AM

FF12 isnt half bad the 360 has been pushed aside for it lol. There's some things that take geting used too as said above like the open battles and gambits. But so far i liked 7 and 10 better but this is far far better than 10-2 they gave us.

Also agree with Hanslow it will probably never be topped

I sold my PS2 after I finished x as I never thought xii would make it to the PS2 but would be a PS3 title.

xii and PS2 it is then

Its utterly ace - It was designed by the same team that did Vagrant Story and it shows.

Hanslow 01 March 2007 10:10 AM

Pete, I was thinking just last night, whilst getting another hour in, how much it reminded me of Vagrant Story, and that game was cool :)

MrRA 01 March 2007 09:09 PM

FF7 and FF8 completely destroyed my social life at one time. I CANNOT allow myself to buy this and neither will my Mrs

Gav 13 March 2007 11:50 PM

I've just started FF7 again:o

Bravo2zero_sps 14 March 2007 10:07 AM

Never seen let alone played any of this series and from what everyone has said i'm better off resisting and not getting involved! Just for research purposes which is the best one if one was to play this series for the first time?

PeteBrant 14 March 2007 10:24 AM

Tricky.

From a Storyline point of view - Either VII or IX. From a gameplay point of view, almost certainly XII.

The story of VII is just epic, but prepare for random battles, it can be a slog at times.

Obviously it is an older game, so don't expect anything fancy graphically (other than some of the CG which has a charm about it), and don't expect spoken dialogue - its all text.

But as a gaming experience, it's in the very exclusive group of historically important games.

XII is completely different in terms of gameplay and will probably appeal far more to the modern gamer - it has a MMORPG feel to the combat, as opposed to turn based battles.

If you get into Japanese RPGs you will find there are a wealth of utterly fantastic games out there. Dragonquest, Xenogears, Xenosaga, Digital Devil Saga, Shadow Hearts, Star Ocean, Final Fantasy, .hack, Vagrant Story, Chrono Trigger, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia, Tales of Symphonia to name but a few.

I have X-2 and apart from the catchy music I thought it was rubbish!!!!

gotmashed 15 March 2007 02:11 PM

x-2 was crap x was fair better, Ive given up on 12 i can get in to it they have channed to much this time :(

hail-hail 15 March 2007 06:42 PM

Having never played any FF games before I recently loaded FF VIII onto my PSP. Have played for about 2 hours, so a lot of nothing really happened yet.
Getting used to the battle format and running around discovering things.

Any hints and tips you would consider essential?

Not really fully understood the whole Junctioning thing yet or indeed how to do anything but lose at cards.

Looks like I am hooked though, been a RPG fan for ages, and recently completed Zelda - A link to the Past again as well as Secret of Mana.
Did try FF III but just too rubbish for words.

gotmashed 16 March 2007 10:55 PM

8 isnt the best to start with 7 would have been a better starting point. Only thing to remember is to train your gf so you can junction hp stats and the + hp ones. Also when cid gives you the lamp (talk to him before you leave the garden) go out in to the world save your game and use it this will put you in to a battle with a gf a good one at that once hes been trained a bit, Draw demi (he will counter attack and cure one of your people :)) from him it will fail alot and use it on him this will take 1/4 of his hp (i think it is) every time you use it so the less hp he has the less it takes when you get so low that you can take more out of him by hiting with your weapons/magic do so. hope that makes sense lol

Just started (well twelve hours in with a lot of replaying so realistically at least twenty hours) playing FFXII - what an astonishing game. It is HUGE.

FFVII was easily the best FF game and this is the first one to compare. It is not as charming as FFVII but it is stunning in its range, story and complexity.

Search for FFXII FAQs on Google and you will get an idea of how big this game is and how rich the underlying story is. It is the first game for a long time that has been going back to the PS2 for late night sessions.

Rannoch :D

Hanslow 22 March 2007 11:28 AM

I'm 56 hours into it :D Have encountered less than half the monsters (according to the clan guide) and haven't progressed the story that much. Loving it ;)

Trout 23 March 2007 09:37 AM

Started playing last night for an hour....ended playing four!

Did get Nighogg, Cluckatrice, the two werewolves and through Leviathan, and got everyone up at least three levels :)
