do you put salt on melon?

at a dinner on saturday night and one of the girls puts salt on her desert of melon... and then declares she's always done this and that it's traditional in france

:wonder: :cuckoo:

news to me. anyone else heard of this?

I've seen it done too, think I was in Italy. Just doesn't seem right to me either! Mind you, Melon and Parma Ham (which is salty) tastes great, so perhaps the salt enhances the sweetness in the melon?
