old mondeo kangaroo-ing

Hi,
I aquired a new budget banger the other night, a 95 Mondeo 1.8 16v Zetec.
All seems well apart from when the engine is under load it has a tendancy to kangaroo a bit.

I will replace the spark plugs and air filter over the weekend, but is there anything else relevant to these engines I should do?

Thanks

Put petrol in it rather than Diesel? ...... sorry mate couldn't resist.

Check your filters maybe, or a pinched / holed hose?

Ha! It came with half a tank of fuel, I hope its the right stuff!

I will be giving it a bit of a service over the weekend, I just wondered if there was a known or common problem with the zetec engine.... sensor faults or whatever.

Plug leads?

The engines should run and run if maintained, at around 90-100k they can become a little noisy (tappets) but this is common and not worth bothering with.
As above though, plugs/leads/filter, easy to do on one of these, only other bit of advice is to see if you have any water marks in the passenger footwell (or water) as the pollen filter (under the grill by the window, passenger side, silver/black box thing) have a tendancy not to be changed and the seals rot allowing water to come into the car.
Cost all of about 30 quid to replace the seal and filter, cheap n cheerful motoring :D
Oh, id also bung a bottle of redex in (like a full bottle (big one), not just a drop) as you may find this improves performance a little ;)

Tony:)

Mine was doing the same thing a while back, cleaned the airflow meter out and all's good again :)

It could also be down to the plugs and leads. They have a habit of failing and causing the same symptoms.
