p1_nutta 12 August 2001 05:09 PM

just had a runin with a beemer (e36) M3 on the M25,was really close, shame to say didn't really wanna kick it ..getting a bit silly..but that v6 does have some punch.. straights were good (p1 was losing some distance)..but the slip road was brill!!! scooby cornering was wicked..he eased up..so i took the opportunity and overtook!!

(surffice to say, i don't normally drive like that..but its rare..more chance spotting a dodo!!)

Its made me think whats the best mod's to start off with on a stock p1?

exhaust/induction air filter first? then ecu changes etc?? i'm really after improving the top end....in straight line..

cheers

this was really a one off..and isn't going to be repeated..speed was for about 2 secs..and then i moved over easing off..

Tony,

The M3 was probably in 6th(!)

Seriously though, I had an MY00 Turbo with PPP, full Scoobysport system, etc and the M3 would still outpace it on the motorway. I would lose miserably in the wet on the twisty bits though.

Maybe's you came acorss a non-"evolution" M3 which doesn't have 320bhp, weight reduction, etc...

Looking outside and its cold and frosty, and will probably snow soon - wish I still had the scoob at this time of year!

Arron Bird is probably your best bet to truly compare an M3 with a P1 as he's owned both.

need
new air filter, or suction kit
3" twin-dump downpipe
3" catless exhaust system
Front Mounted Inter-cooler
Bigger Turbo - perhaps a VF22 or a hybrid?
New Ecu, to get the most out of the mods.

that should get u going a bit faster =)

p1_nutta 08 December 2001 05:29 PM

ChristianR

With all those mods, what would be the likely bhp? 350-400 region?

now that would be great! :)

LeoneTurbo 08 December 2001 05:38 PM

Straight six has more outright power, P1 wins on sheer ability!

sulli 08 December 2001 07:44 PM

I aint being funny - but do you really think the Police would go to the bother of tracing an IP Adress, of someone for all they know could be a 13 yr old kid, on the basis of a throw away comment on a BB???

Could it be used as evidence - I would think not.

humbug 08 December 2001 09:40 PM

The cops have got more improtant things to worry about online like child porn me thinks.

DazV 08 December 2001 10:11 PM

Never tried a P1, but my M3 EVO (320bhp)...

1) Will just about keep up with a scoob* to 60mph
2) Will pull away easily from 60mph.
3) Will lose miserably on twisty roads on a wet day.

*I've 'played' against a PPP'd UK Turbo and an STI import.

Saying that I'd have my Turbo back as a 2nd car in a flash if I could afford to run both. Soooo practical, sooo predictable, so safe in the wet.

M3's are 3.2 6's so it should pull away from a 2ltr Turbo after 60. CC's will win every time. :)

S6OOBY 09 December 2001 09:26 AM

My P1 is stock with regards to it's power pack, in as much as a Scorpion straight through and an ITG panel filter yet is still giving me 310 bhp and 287 lbs of torque.

However, my car has had a fair few more important mods.....DMS Gold suspension, AP six pot brakes with DS2500, DS2500's in the rear, upgraded anti roll bar bushes, anti-lift kit, lower front brace, 18" wheels, and these mods alone have allowed me to wipe the smiles off anything I've come across so far inc M3's (old and new),TVR's,EVO's etc.....

Food for thought.....correct set up cancels out more power...IMHO :D:D:D

Mind you......I'm now admittedly at the stage where for track purposes only, more power would be nice :)

AndyMan 09 December 2001 02:31 PM

I've just had a T75 Exhaust System and Blitz induction kit fitted -if you don't mind the extra noise it's great (will be a bit more noise at those sort of speeds on the motorway - I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT)!

Power-wise it's churning out 320bhp, but the turbo picks up a lot earlier than it used to. I'm still on the quest to late 300's and the magic 400 though!

TonyBurns 09 December 2001 02:37 PM

Hmmm well ive played with an E36 M3 and all i can say is byeeeeeee ;) as i was pulling away from him in 5th (not saying what speed thou ;))
Through the gears? dunno, but mine is an MY00 PPP'd scoob and ive outpaced a 348gt thru the gears, now thats got 310bhp ;) you also have to take into account that the power to weight ratio for an M3 is what? 190-210bhp per tonne?
not far off a PPP'd scoob at 200bhp per tonne is it? ;)

Tony:D

ARRON BIRD 09 December 2001 08:54 PM

Upto say a ton wouldnt be anything in it but after that the cc`s take over I`m afraid. ;)

wilf 10 December 2001 08:43 AM

According to stats in mags theres little in it vs M3 evo. (Top Gear did figure M3 evo quite a bit slower. On the road I have followed an M3 evo in my old 98MY and he didnt make much ground on straights and was slightly slower through corners (but then the e36 M3 was never as highly acclaimed as the new model).

I would be careful about racing M3s if I were you - those pimps and drug dealers can be nasty people.
