Your dashboard has faded? Please read..
 

Hi guys,

Over the past two year my dashboard had faded quick a lot. I tried things suggested on scoobynet like applying black satin paint with a sponge but I couldn't get the paint to last for more that 2 months.

Last year I decided to give the car to Littleknocks and have the dashboard re-sprayed. Unfortynately the dashboard started fading again within six months. This costed me £100.:nono:

I was seriously considering flocking the dashboard but the problem is that although the price is only around £100, there is too much trouble as I use the car daily and extra cost would be required for a rent car.

The solution that is very cheap and easy to apply is the following:

"Forever Black Bumper & Trim Cleaner Reconditioner Dye Kit" by performance motorcare products.

The finish is superb and it only required 2 coats. All the white marks have been covered and the dashboard is like new.


Try it and you will not be disappointed.

As a recommendation do use a different sponge and not the sponge on top of the bottle. By applying the dye in a bigger sponge it will take you 10 minutes to apply each paint coat.

I've always used Auto Glym bumper and plastic restorer on my dash, and an old trick is WD40 on a cloth wipe over instant black shine :D

I'm bumping this old thread back up for all of us peeps with faded dashes.

I haven't bought any of it yet (first gonna try Poorboys World 'Trim Restorer': Poorboys Trim Restorer). If that don't work, then may get some of this stuff.

Has anyone else used the Forever Black product? Is it as good as the OP claims? :wonder:

yeah on a rag, always worked for me :)

Dunno about white patches though mate, what appened there then like? ;) lol

But johnsons baby oil should do, I used it on my black trims of any car I owned, inside and out. It may the first time just look shiny at first and then go back to normal after a while but after regular applications you'll notice the effect will last longer and stay shinier and brighter over long periods :)

If not and u don't mind the smell of coco-nut, palmers balm does the job aswell but don't use as much :thumb:

Would be good if you do as my dash is fading and blotching a treat so would be nice to see what the your guy says/does compared to the products mentioned.
Flocking was another option for me.

I'd love to flock too :lol1: - love the rally/racecar look (as well as lack of glare obviously). But can't be arsed with getting dash out - it's a bit of a pig according to those who have done it. Harvey told me he's done it at least once and that he eluded to the fact that he'd only do it again if it was absolutely necessary. So that's a no no for me, unfortunately :(.

Cheat buy a 2nd hand dash get that flocked THEN have the problem of getting the dash out:lol1:

At least doing it that way, I could then just book a day in with a specialist to swap it over (and therefore not be without the car for some days).

There was a pre-flocked, black early dash on eBay a few months back - I now regret not having bid for it :brickwall:cry:

On my local jap car forum we have a lass who does it for about £80 (flocking that is :lol1: ) it's just getting another dash that may prove expensive :(

That's seems a great price. Got quoted £150 :( for the flocking form rapid-ford advertising on eBay.

Just finished it.... and I am stunned! :eek: It's with no exaggeration that it looks like a factory fresh dashboard now :) :D :thumb::-

BEFORE... sorry, these are photos that weren't originally taken with the faded dash in mind - but you get the idea. The main flat area of the dash that meets the base of the windscreen became all-'white' with the sun-bleaching!...

The photos really don't do the job justice :(, but it looks stunning! :)...Thing is, for how long :wonder: :confused: :Whatever_

He said he used a leather cleaner/renovator... heated up the dash with a heatgun... and then applied a special water-based plastic paint :freak3:. Apparently, it's okay to clean the dash with non-spirit based products. So silicon and water-based are okay. Obviously would make sense to use water-based products...

Overall, I'm well chuffed. Goes without saying that it lifts the inside - as you can see, it was a right ruddy mess before. :lol1:

Cost?...... £69 (inc. 15% VAT)!!! :luxhello:

The quality of the result far exceeds the 'paltry' outlay IMHO :D :thumb: (especially as I didn't have to lift a finger - which is very much my 'thing' :lol1: lol)

So, just a case of pre-booking to arrange a suitable appointment at work... then 2 hours later, happy bunnies all round lol! :)

P.S. What I can't get over is the paint match. Can't tell that anything's been done to it! :eek: Thought it'd be pretty much black and therefore not match up with doorcard top-rolls, etc. But no, it's 'exactly' the same! :cool:
