Video clips with no fast forward

Downloaded some video clips of planes landing in bad crosswinds, they're WMV format. They play fine on the desktop PC, some of the clips start with the planes miles away (literally..) and I can click through the clip to the landing (missed landing/go arounds actually) by moving the slider. I've now put the files on CD and transferred the to my laptop and I seem to have lost the function to fast forward the clip.
Both machines are XP and have the same versions of media player and realplayer.

Downloaded a big codec pack but doesn't make any difference - any thoughts?

Hi,

I've had this in the past too, apparently (after a lot of searching!) it happens because the video file gets slightly corrupt.

The way I found to get round it was to download Windows Media Encoder from Microsoft and re-encode the video.

HTH,

Gareth

Thanks Gareth, I'll give that a try.

Odd one cause the desktop will play the file ok from the CD but the laptop doen't.

Try using VLC instead of WMP
