Classic TMIC vs STI TMIC
I seem to remember hearing the STI TMIC is better than standard ?
I have a 97 Classic with various mods including hybrid TD04, currently running about 300bhp 290ftlb. The ECU map is conservative (due to problems when mapped - now sorted). I am considering another remap to get the best out of my final set up, honest  Are there safety margins / performace gains to be got from a better TMIC, which do I look for and how much are they new / 2nd hand ? Cheers. |
clint, your IC flows 5.62 cu metres the sti5 the same, but with an aluminium Y piece which is considerably better than silicon Y piece.
the sti 7/8 IC flows 8.88 cu metres. there are plenty of threads on here regards fitting. ken |

I'm agreed that the performance gains of the STi over the WRX item are down to the Y-piece as the cores are the same. But do you have test results on the metal Y-piece and its pipework vs. a one-piece Samco hose?
my point was that the 1997 IC and sti 5 ones were identical apart from Y piece which you have also pointed out. ken |
i would think that the samco Y piece would be as good as the sti alu one. the plastic one on the non sti has horrible ridges where i supose its meant to flex to fit, bit must play havoc with the air flow.... smooth is good and samco and alu both give that, think the standard Y piece is a smaller diameter too compared to alu sti one.

Cheers guys.
Think I'll be looking for Samco Y peice and leave it at that - my original plastic one is hard as nails and a real pain to reattach anyway. |
