Phoned a turbo tuner today- he reckons there is no need to chip my My00 he just wants to modify the actuator! I wont be going to him, as that idea does not appeal to me,but has anyone else heard off this?

DP Motorsport higly recomend NOT chipping scoobies - their view is to sort the inhale and exhale (full de-cat), then look at Actuator and fuel control

Modifying the actuator raises the boost in a similar way that a boost controller or £20 bleed valve will.

What it does not address is the ECU cutting the engine (aka "Fuel cut") when the MAP sensor detects too much boost.

If you use a "widget" to disable or postpone the fuel cut, you are effectively feeding the ECU duff information which is dangerous.

NOW THATS AN ANSWER!

I had my ECU modified so that it ignored the Boost Cut on my UK94, along with a bleed valve.

All I can say is that being a muppet, and when the red mist came down during hillclimbing I increased the boost to a hold of 23 ~ 25 PSI, peaking somewhere off the boost gauge.

Knackered the a piston resulting in a complete rebuild.

Draw you own conclusions of whether bleed valves are good !

I wouldn't say bleed valves are bad if you are after a modest increase (and you leave the ECU "safety net" in place). As Lee says on his site, an accurate boost gauge is essential.

Both Lee and I have used them in the past and for a modest increase, they are very effective. I raised the boost on my MY94 WRX from 12psi to 14psi and it worked very well.

Having said that, we both now have a Link ECU which is a more complete solution....
