After the recent bout of MOTUL being the oil of choice, you know, Bob Rawle, Subaru World Rally Team, etc - I thought I would pop out and get some.

A quick search of the web with no sources for cars - however lots and lots of bike shops sell it!

So this could be a good thing (TM)

The only slight concern is, that although I have procured 300V Competition 15/50 Esther Synthetic, which looks and sounds just like the right car stuff, it has a picture of a bike on the front. It is described as being ideal for competition four stroke engines! Apart from the competition bit, that sounds fine to me ;)

Is this the same oil, simply with different branding?

Also, interesting how bike boys are much better atuned to having good oil.

Finally the price I got was good, better than Demon Tweeks if you take postage into account.

Cheers,

Trout

Bikers spend 90% of their time over 8k rpm, they learnt about the importance of good oil quickly mate :)

Motorcycle oils are a compromise because of the shared duty, ie they have gearbox, engine and clutch all to be lubed by the same oil. They generally have some kind of "modifier" in it to be able to cope with a wet clutch and the shearing forces of the gearbox. Honda's new CRF 450 motocrosser is the first bike I know of which has separate oil sumps for engine and gearbox/clutch allowing specific oils to be used (super slippery synthetic in the engine and an extreme pressure oil in the gearbox). I would not use motorcycle oil in my scoob

On my bottles of Motul it says ...

100% synthese
300V Competition
Motul Motorsport
15W 50
Motor Oil

MOT3006/CZ
Motul 300V competition synthetic 15w50 oil for high performance
Exceeds API SH/CF, CCMCG-4/PD2

"A fully synthetic ester based performance engine oil developed for professional racing teams. For gasoline or diesel engine, turbocharged or not with or without catalytic converter."

No mention of motor cycle engines so what you have could be a "version" designed specifically for that.

Source ... Demon Tweeks amongst others.
