Newbie error code 24????
 

Hi, i have checked the error codes after a CEL light. Seems like it is code 24.
Two long flashes with four small ones.
Looks like an idle code.
The car is very lumpy at idle and also hunts, kangaroos when crawling along in traffic. Fuel consumption seems excessive. It idles at 1500rpm!!!:eek2:
Please help.

could be your idle adjuster although that usually just manifests itself as stalling.

id be more tempted to replace MAF, if that doesnt work I'd replace lambada sensor - in that order coz its cheaper to try MAF first :p

if its a classic it will be your idle control valve or the pipe work that goes with it it could have a small split or pin hole, i think they are adjustable on some models but if it has only just started playing up i would look at the pipe work and the connecters first and try a reset to.

24 Idle air control solenoid.

Why not try that first then?

What I do when I get a flat tyre is first go and get a punture repair kit, then I buy a new tyre, and last of all I try pumping it up!

it is on the intake to the right of the throttle body has a plug in the top of it remove it and give it a good clean with brake cleaner all the seals and a diafram if that don't work try to find one second hand as they are pricey

On trying to get to the bottom of my idling problem and error code 24, i carried out the following. Removed and cleaned the MAF with brake cleaner and then

Removed this and cleaned it with brake cleaner.

I found this bodged on with araldite

Put it all back together and started her up, it was fine when cold and when the choke device cut out the engine was hunting like crazy. It was idling just over 1K and the revs were rising and falling rapidly.
I turned her off and reset the ECU. Started her up and it was just idling high with no hunting. Went out for a spirited drive of about 20 mins or so with no CEL light and on pulling up to a junction slowly the CEL light came on.
Could it be the bodged pipe union, ICV or the MAF?
And what are the bits called that i took off and cleaned?
Sorry for seeming dim but i am new to Scoobies and are unsure of part recognition.

right the other bits you cleaned are the boost valve and cilinoyd that is ok won't hurt it now I would say you need a MAF or a lamda sensor but would go with MAF that will bring the light on if you want one pm me I have 2 1 brand new in a box from subaru and I have a used one in perfect working order let me know also give me a contact num must be landline as it will cost a forntune from a land line we can sort this out and help you as much as I can cheers

Thanks for the reply. :thumb: . I unplugged the MAF when the car was running and it died, i think that is what is supposed to happen. I have now located the the ICV and will remove and clean that when i have time and see what happens.
What is and what does the cilinoyd do?
What is the black boxy thing and what does it do?
I am definatly interested in a MAF if cleaning the ICV does nothing.

Idle update. Code 24.
 

Took off the idle control solenoid today, gave it a good clean and replaced the gasket (22659AA060). Reset the ECU and it idled at 800ish RPM, after a drive the idle went up to just over 1k. Still runs smooth and much better than before but with a tad high idle.
Is it worth trying to adjust the ICV or replace it?
Is there anything else to try?
The CEL light remains off now!:thumb:

ypu can try it for a bit but it will probley go as with the idle you undo the to little screws on top and turn it anti clockwise to adjust the throttle don't undew the screws to much it will fail again though mine did the same and I cleaned it and it went a week later remember if you need one I have a new one cheers

Well if i knew where it was when i first posted this message i would.
Instead of an inane message about a flat tyre, a simple bit of constructive help woul have been more satisfying.
The title says it all "Newbie". Which means in my book that they are new to the car and are unsure of a lot of things and need help from the forum experts. Not childish comments.
I hope this had made things clear.
