not normal to lose all water
any signs of external leaks?
failing that head gasket problem?
either way would get it checked asap you will end up with knackered cylinder heads

Head gasket has gone by the sound of it, check for bubbles in the plastic water tank

most likely cause is a split in the plastic end tanks of the radiator. It's a common fault. Check the end tanks after driving the car for signs of water, and replace the radiator if required.

If it isn't that, you may have a split water hose, or worst case scenario it could be a gasket.
