knock sensor removal

I got my new spanking knock sensor today and began the task of replacing it as I was advised to do after my CEL light came on with the 22 reading etc.

Anyway I can't seem to get the old one out, the 12mm bolt that holds it in place simply won't budge its solid stiff!!! Any ideas???

p.s have tried WD40 and even broke the tip of my rachet when I forced it!!!

Please Help!!!!

It shouldn't be that tight, mine came undone quite easily. Are you sure that the socket is sitting squarly on the bolt and that it isn't jamming when you try and turn it? Its a bit difficult to see down there.

I've been trying at it all day!! Just wont turn at all!!

also is it definately 12mm right??

Try warming the engine first. WD40's next to useless for freeing up corroded bits. PlusGas is much better. )Sounds like the ally and steel have corroded up together.)
Brown Bros etc sell Loctite "Freeze and Release" you might have some joy with this. It's basically a coolant spray & works by thermal shock
Yup, it's a 12mm head. You could try nipping it up first

I think I have some of that freeze and release stuff somewhere now you come to mention it, do you think it'l work as not alot of the actual bolt is exposed?? I'll give it a try 2mora anyway. Thanks mate.

Or, maybe leave the original one and add the new one to the alternative position closer to the gearbox ?

Dave :)

yeah i think i'll give it a shot too. Still a little unsure of where this alternative position is, I'm at work at the mo and not got the car with me today but will take a look as soon as i get home.

PS: its a 1995 WRX does this correspond with the picture you given??
What year is yours??

Claaarkio 16 February 2007 12:43 PM

Should be fine mate, mines a 93.

As the thread said its a little less noisey there so should be fine, but i am only going on what been said before :)
