it is part of the emission control set up.................connected to your carbon can vapour recirculation............

there's no wires on my carbon canister, just 3 vta pipes

or did i read that wrong

there is a sensor as in the pic that is part of that unit :)

It's not a sensor, it's a solenoid ;) It's the Purge Control Valve, I believe it operates when the throttle body closes and allows air to be sucked through the canister thus purging the petrol vapour.
If you run the Test Mode you'll hear it cycle along with the pump and fan(s)

it basically vents the fuel tank via the carbon canistor and allows the petrol vapour to be put in to the inlet and burnt i believe
