Lexus 220d se Clutch problem
 
Heya can anyone help on this one.

Need to know how easy it would be to completetly wreck a clutch on a brand new Lexus 220dse in the snow.

Leased one for a collegue at work, and in the snow on friday the clutch pedal at one stage did not come back up then completely went.

On inspection Lexus say the clutch has been slipped but the car has only done 2000 miles and was sitting stationary in the jams for around 2 hrs.

Lexus want £1600 plus vat to fix this and i would ask you guys for advice.

I'd be telling them to fix it FOC, End off!!!

I know most clutches arn't covered under warranty but 2000 miles is taken the p!ss. Lexus are normally great when it comes to customer service, I've never had a problem with them. Write to their head office complaining and ask they fix it foc.

Customer services say that the problem is riding the clutch, but as i argued, I could accept it if there was 15,000 on the clock and the car had been dogged. The clutch gave up the ghost on friday in the snow and the car had to be left.

The thing drives up and down the M6 for 2 junctions every day and thats it apart from a bit of cruising of a weekend. They want me to pay for a replacement clutch and wont budge on this.

I have said keep the car, shove your lease and see you in court.

Any ideas????

It is remotely possible that the slave or master cylinder is internally leaking slightly.

So, when stationary, if held in gear with foot on clutch, it would slowly start to engage. So A 2hour traffic jam would easily kill it if you kept in gear during that time (ever heard of neutral?; using it saves the release bearings from wearing out ;) ); although you should have smelt it a mile off.

Clutches are only designed to pull away from stationary and change gear, so holding the car on a hill with it (even for 10 seconds) or pulling away in high gears etc will damage it, and this would be be quite evident when it is removed and inspected.
