Dyno run today !

I've booked an hour on the rolling road at sussex performance centre today (Valentines Day present from the mrs lol). I'm aware of the ravages of time and BHP escaping out the backbox over time so what do you think i should expect.
94 JDM WRX which i believe is around 240BHP when new and standard.
Z4ECU fitted
Apexi Panel filter
Crap backbox
Is it wishful thinking to expect around 240 - 250 BHP from a car of this age?
Has anyone had similar mod's on a similar model and had a dyno run ?

You know ur gonna come out of there wanting at the least a better back box, probably a remap lol. Hope you enjoy your pressie :)

I've basically done everything to make it look good, now i'm setting my sights on the 300BHP mark and focusing on light engine mod's. If the best run is only 200BHP at the crank i know i'll have a way to go.....
I'll scan the run and post it here later.

No idea's ?

Got a 93wrx with similar mods to yours (Ik insread of panel filter and decat) and made 245bhp

I warned them about the shagged back-box and the baffles falling out. They phoned me about half hour after leaving to tell me the back box had exploded basically and dumped most of the exhaust baffles all over their Dyno (how embarassing)
even so though they tried to run it as best as possible, although every so often it was blocking.... here's the graph....

Time for a new exhaust then, mate.

Full decat is the way to go :thumb:

OMG! That's a wierd power curve! Up and down like a yo-yo! What comment did they make?

I think thats because of his exhaust falling to pieces during the run!

Dave :)

The tech was just basically unable to say much about anything really. The mixture as you can see is all over the place, but they weren't sure whether that was because of the changing back pressure but he was also very critical of the Z4 ecu i fitted. Until a decent backbox is on there and they can do a decent power run with a smooth curve they can't diagnose where to go next.

Its my plan to get a "dyno history" of the car, not doing run's that often but just keeping on top of how the cars running. Starting with a bad run to me in a weird way is a good way to start.
When i drove home if you put your foot down it spluttered then went, the exhaust fumes unable to go anywhere. They were on the rollers for nearly 2hrs just trying to get a run out of it (only paid for 1), whenever they hammered it the thing would just splutter, as the graph shows.

myblackwrx 15 February 2007 12:00 PM

How were they critical of the z4 ecu?
Is the z4 standard or got a chip in it?

94impreza 15 February 2007 11:39 PM

The z4 is standard untouched and just plugged straight in without being tampered with so i was suprised he even questioned it being on there. When i fitted it there was an obviously smoother power delivery and boosted to 0.9 bar instead of 0.6. He said he'd seen many of them fitted before but never to any advantage, and funnily enough on the invoice they recemmended fitting an Apexi FC ECU which they stock ;).

Myblackwrx i've just noticed your AFR graph is pretty similar to mine, i was worried mine was running extraordinarily rich...was yours mapped at all?

myblackwrx 16 February 2007 08:13 AM

Nope perfectly standard Z4 ecu (mods are decat, apexi induction kit,Revolution exhaust 2.5"( i think) ).
When i had this run i was more p**sed off that it didn't produce 260 as that iis what the ecu is rated at BUT i do find it's a nicer driving experience with the Z4.
I'm surprised you say that before you fitted the z4 you were boosting to only 0.6bar as the standard boost for the early ecus is 0.8.

94impreza 16 February 2007 10:01 AM

what do you usually boost now with the Z4? Did the garage say it was rich when they dyno'd it ?

myblackwrx 16 February 2007 10:18 AM

The z4 boost is 0.875 compared to 0.79 for the U8,W6,2C ecus.

WRX/STI saloons 2C, U8, W6, and W9 11.47psi held to redline fuel cut 14.57psi
WRX saloons (95/96) Z4 12.71psi dropping to 11.78psi@6600rpm fuel cut 15.65psi.

the garage said the fuelling was fine but with the decat i do get a whiff of petrol on start up
