WR1 performance?

Are the things I have read about WR1s right? Fastest production Scoob? 0-60 in 4.25? Colour ain't my cup of tea, but it all sounds like a s**t hot package straight from the box.

Robocop 13 February 2007 12:44 PM

I'd have a look over here, although they might be a tad bias. wr1oc.co.uk :)

GazTheHat 13 February 2007 01:08 PM

Could you not create the WR1 spec out of an STi with TSL333 and some whiteline bits?

jayltee1 13 February 2007 01:10 PM

Thanks. At work so didn't really want to go digging for hours, just wanted any opinions on here if this was true or total garbage. I didn't realise they were so much 'faster' than other models, thought it was just extras for a special edition to make it 'feel' nicer.

funkyspider 13 February 2007 01:13 PM

While you are over at wr1oc website have a look in 'the garage' members pics at the scoobymania built 554bhp and 530lbft beastie, oh and there's also a Type 25 in there - which looks very discrete.

Aye, they seem to be the figures that a TSL conversion would do. Roughly.

(and what a difference!)

JohnD 13 February 2007 05:03 PM

0 - 60 in 4.25 from 318 bhp sounds a bit optimistic. Even TSL don't claim that from the 333 Is the latest STi much heavier than the previous model, as the RB320 is back up to what Prodrive claimed for the "Blobeye" PPP

This is where I read it:
The Subaru Impreza WRX STi 'WR1'

Have a look here Litchfield Imports with one article with this cover on it as it has a test with WR1 v Spec C v P1 v Type 25. http://www.litchfieldimports.co.uk/i...e/evocover.jpg

The main benefits were that you had the 3 year warranty and your insurance is cheap as it's classed as a standard car.

If you wanted the alloys/suspension/PPP then it was in actual fact a reasonable deal. Now that the warranties are about to expire (mine has 8 months left as it was a fairly late one), then you could argue that you might as well mod a standard sti. Your insurance would still probably cost you a fair bit more though... I think it's a pretty good package out of the box, but if you won't be happy to leave it standard then you may be better off with an STI and mod from there as it will probably be cheaper.

Fair play - cheers guys.

I don't know how right it is,but i was just in the same position as you and was looking for an STI and considered the WR1 as i personally love the colour, and you are supposed to get a bit more power as standard, however, after speaking to a couple of (knowledgeable??)people about them i was told that they have the same power as you would expect from an STI PPP.

So,i have just bought a '54 plate STI PPP that luckily the guy had had from new and wanted the WR1 but Subaru had sold out so he specced up the STI to the same level,so it has the 18"PFF7's,WR1 Grille's etc,and the money i have saved over buying a WR1 will go towards tuning this properly and getting more than the (claimed??)WR1 power....................all it's missing is the colour, but if as you say you don't like that...............:thumb:

jubhi 14 February 2007 05:22 PM

Anyone ever raced a WR1 in the realworld with an STI PPP??

On a private track of course :)

Interested to know the real world difference if any?

My WR1 pushed out 322 BHP at a rolling road day and its standard you dont here of many standard STI PPP's getting anywhere near there quoated 305 ps (301 BHP) let alone 322BHP which is about 327 PS. So yes they are more powerfull than an STI PPP.

TBH,i think you will get good and bad ones of each so it's not really a genuine comparison.I looked at 4 STI's before i bought the one i have, and either the others were lacking or the one i bought has had something done to it that it's (one)owner did not disclose to me,as mine seems very strong in comparison to the others i looked at:wonder: ....................maybe it is a Tuesday car and not a Friday afternoon/Monday morning one:confused: !!!

In the 'Real World' my Standard 215BHP Impreza will stay with any other Impreza ..... be it Spec Z STi PPP WRC WRX SPi DDDC JDM UK Spec W with Mods!! :lol1:

It will reach the back of the queue up front just as fast ............ in the 'Real World'

Add to that my superior driving skill and my standard UK car would probably wee wee all over a STi PPP - P1 - WR1 or anything else for that matter :D

Would you like a race :D

Chelspeed 14 February 2007 07:25 PM

I changed a ppp'd STi bobeye for a WR1 and the WR1 feels significantly quicker. Not massively so but noticeably quicker and more responsive. I too like the colour, wasn't sure at first (after two rally blue ones I'd have chosen black next) but I definetly like it now.

Thats strange, I only got 321 BHP....How did you manage the other 1 bhp...;)

Not sure if the WR1 and the STI have the same gearing!, but 20bhp will make no odds on a 300bhp sti, none whats so ever, to pull away and be "SIGNIFICANTLY" quicker, you would need about 100bhp more to put any distance between them.

I had my mate chase me down in my 300bhp 22B, He was driving a WRX bugeye with de-cat and dawes, believe me there was not alot in it!:eek2:

Manic Mav 14 February 2007 09:09 PM

I love the colour,it really suits the car and as others say, with them being standered they are almost half the price to insure as an PPP STi.

With the knowledge of realibiaty!!!
