help.....rattle...rattle...help
Hi
Has anyone got any suggestions on what’s causing my rattle? The sound! Errr:wonder: sounds like bits of plastic flying around a bake bean tin coming from the engine bay. It makes the noise hot and cold, Or the bloody thing can go for a week with out doing it at all, Then start intermittently during a journey, There’s just know pattern to it! When it does rattle, it’s between 1500 and 3500 rpm. Not just on acceleration, it will rattle at a constant speed on the motorway as well.:brickwall Had it at Scoobyclinic and all the heat shields are solid. I’ve secured every loose hose and cable I can see. This is really starting to p**s me off now so any advise would be greatly appreciated :notworthy |
could be a pulley from alternater or if you have air con the tensinoror a cam pulley
|
Did Scoobyclinic not give you any ideas?
It is very hard to diagnose a sound without actually seeing the car. Could be anything from a worn/loose pulley to a knackered crank bearing Craig |
thanks for the thoughts guys
Scoobyclinic said it could the heater matrix from behind the dash? But I'm sure its coming from the engine bay. It's a WRX bugeye by the way. |

I found one on here after a search. Said it was the cat in the up pipe.
Aren't they a bugger to change though? |
no just change the pipe and put a decat in
|
hello mate my 97 t2000 makes what sounds like a similar noise , nailed it down to a loose bit in the bonnet cone . only does it when its moving .
|
could also be the cover on the up pipe as they come loose
|
Sounds like the Tensioner cam pulley mate
|
I have a bugeye and had the same problem last month!

Wastegate actuator, they can rattle like mad if there is no pre-tension on it.
Assuming that one has adjustment, just tweak it in tighter gently, until it just pulls on the rod as you slip it onto the arm. Then carefully check your boost! If the slack rod is due to a duff spring in the capsule, your boost would be low already. If you aren't sure about any of the above, take it a chap who does! |
