sti crank

what numbers are on a 94 sti crank and can i put a later crank in the same closed dec block, is the thrust bearing in the same place as the 95/96 sti crank.

From '99 to '97 they are all the same. The crank used in the STi engine is no different.

You need to be careful with '98 engines because there is a cross over point, where they change to end thrust, but there is no way of telling until the engine is split.

my engine is split so what am i looking for, how do i tell which is the thrust bearing for sure, would you like me to get a picture up.

Mark means from 1989.................bit of a mistype i guess..........

the 'thrust' bearing has sides to it to locate the crank laterally in the block, as Mark says above the engine's you mention should all be centre thrust

the later 98-99> cars have the thrust washer located at the rear of the crank

Alyn,

Thanks, Yes a typo, should have been 92-97 to cover what we commonly deal with.

very good, i understand now, they are half moon cuts out of the sides where the middle main bearing is, like a recess.
