ANOTHER guess the power thread ??

Just interested in what you guys think the power of my car should be judging by others with similar mods. Also, what would be an expected 1/4 mile time ?

'96 Impreza WRX
Rebuilt engine by Api with '05 wrx pistons
Apexi PowerFC Ecu,commander and boost control-Mapped by Paul@Zen-Performance
550cc injectors
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Fuel reg set at 3 bar
Hybrid front mount intercooler
TD05-FE running 1.4 bar
Ceramic coated Gen II spec headers
Hayward&Scott full exhaust(heat wrapped)
Lightened and balanced flywheel
Exedy organic clutch
Rebuilt STi-5 Type-r gearbox
Different diffs but cant remember what they are !!!

The previous owner told me the car should be 340bhp/ 320lb/ft but never had it dyno'd with all the mods, ive been told it might be more so wondered what you guys think.

Also, ive seen a TDO5 20g turbo for sale. Will this fit straight on ? I know ill need a remap, how much power could I expect with this turbo ?

bohnjegley 12 February 2007 06:57 PM

if your car is pushing out 340bhp then somewhere around the 13.1 to 12.8 sec. Terminals of about 100mph to 110mph. It is quite a hard question to answer.

I know my car was producing 294bhp ATH and managed a 13.2 @ 103mph. depends on a lot of different factor's to be honest. Get to the Pod and post up you times.

Will be taking it to the pod sometime this year. My E36 M3 ran a 13.6 1/4 and I would hope that this would be quicker.

I would of thought that a Td05 would need to make more than 1.4bar to make 340bhp.

The limiting factor would be your heads and cams, doubt that you'd make much more power with a 20g than you would with you turbo.

wrxginge 12 February 2007 07:37 PM

Im running pretty much same spec as you but with bigger turbo. At the same boost 1.4 and I managed a 12.2 at 113 yesterday at santa pod

Now thats quick !!

What turbo are you running ?

wrxginge 12 February 2007 07:59 PM

Standard position Gt30.

340BHP-WRX 12 February 2007 08:03 PM

So,will a TD05 20g give me any benefit over what I already have ?

wrxginge 12 February 2007 08:14 PM

Im not really an expert but if yours is a standard tdo5 then yes you will notice a decent gain from the 20g. If you just want a decent 1/4mile time then lag wont be too much of an issue.

Mine is pretty laggy but you dont notice on the 1/4mile.

Mine isnt laggy at all at the moment, picks up really well.

Will the 20g fit straight on,I have a front mount ?

wrxginge 12 February 2007 08:22 PM

Yeah should be straight swap for yours

Might go for it then and see how it goes ;)

Anyone know how strong my engine would be with a view to fitting this TD05 20g ? Its a '96 wrx engine rebuilt by Api about 9000 miles ago with '05 pistons and crank ?

ZEN Performance 13 February 2007 10:00 PM

20g will not quite fit straight on, 20g is front entry, 16g has the 90º entry. SO you need to mess around with a samco hose, which is tricky to get just right, or weld and aluminium elbow on the front, or change/raise the inlet manifold.

There are better turbos than the 20g now IMHO, they just cost a little more money. On a standard wrx bottom end, even one with 9000miles on (I bet it has the original rods) I wouldn't be looking to run anything more than an 18g.

I have mapped a number of 16g equiped cars that have made over 340hp on a variety of rolling roads.

I was under the impression that my TD05 had been converted to front entry and the TD05 20g would therefore fit straight on ?

Alan Jeffery 13 February 2007 10:45 PM

If Paul mapped it, it will be just fine. I like Paul! :)
I think the organic clutch will let you down if you're going for it on a strip.
Much as I agree with using them on road cars, they soon fry when up against flat out gearchanges. Hard choice ahead!

Pauls a top bloke ;)

I thought the organic clutch was good for around 400bhp ?

Alan Jeffery 13 February 2007 10:53 PM

Well, the organic clutch in my Evo ( sorry ) is good for that at least, and has to be! but it still slipped when I hit the strip! On the road, no problem at all. Red mist, you know...
When I get around to it, I have a twin plate Cusco, that'll learn it to mess wiv me...

ZEN Performance 13 February 2007 11:49 PM

It is not a front entry converted TD05, standard configuration.

Oh,the guy I bought the car from said it was a front entry TD05 !!

What benefit do you get from converting to front entry ?

340BHP-WRX 14 February 2007 05:35 PM

Why has this thread been moved to 'drivetrain' ??
