Which cat can you remove and still pass mot
 

I'm aware that there are 2 cats on a scoob classic, can you remove one of these or both and pass an mot??

What model is it. later imports just have one cat in the downpipe.

I was told I could remove both Cats on mine and it be legal. I did check with a mate whos a qualitfied MOT tester and he confirmed that imported classics, upto and including 1995, do not require a Cat to pass an MOT. All UK Spec (before and after 1995) and imports after 1995 do require a Cat.

I should imagine you can take out the secondary Cat on the centre pipe without any grief from the MOT tester. The one on the downpipe is the main one, probably best to keep that one or get a sports cat to save yourself the hassle of swapping them every year, if yours is a later classic or a UK model that is.

The one in question is a 93 wrx so thats good news. I also wanted to decat a 97 though!

The 93 wrx has only 1 cat in the downpipe and at my last MOT (July last year) passed easily without it as they used a standard emissions test.

I've got a my00 Uk classic and only have the front cat and passed the last mot no problem.

My MOT is due in April so I've had an emmisions test at the local station just to check it'll be ok and it passed no problem. UK97 de-cat downpipe with the standard centre cat.

I have a AwD 2000 and I have removed the cat in the middle pipe and I failed my mot. to pass i brought a sports cat down pipe only , then it passed.

Sports cat, or normal cat in the downpipe should do it. Centre cat you might as well throw away if you have one. Basically the hotter it is the better a cat works, hence if you've got two cats and want to get rid of one, get rid of the colder one.

I don't agree. If the aim is to produce as much power as possible and still pass the MOT then you should junk the most restrictive cat you can get away with. In my case it was either buy a sports cat downpipe and get rid of both standard cats, best option but expensive. Or junk the most restrictive of the other two cats which is what i've done. Kept the standard centre cat and got rid of the more restrictive downpipe cat. The centre may be cooler and less efficient that the downpipe giving the car higher emisions that doing it the other way around but as long as their good enough for the MOT I'm happy. Cheers Huw

On my old WRX, it failed the emissions with just the centre cat - but I found out about the pre '95 import loophole and it easily passed the non-cat test.

On my current MY00 Uk Turbo, passed easily with just the Ninja Sports Cat - cracking bit of kit for £299. Apparently only 2bhp difference between it and fully decatted downpipe.

I made 273bhp/273lbft with it on a td04 anyway so I'm happy with it.

well this looks like some info iv been looking for as i have a 95 wrx wagon import and i have been pondering removing one or both the cat's :)

I've just got mine through with a sports cat and straight through centre. 94 WRX
