highest boost out of a td04

hi does anyone know what the standard boost is on a td04 and what is the maximum you can get out of it... i am wanting to get upto 300bhp out of the car (MY00 uk classic by the way) at the moment i have a KN panel filter (because of the ****ty MAF sensor on this particular model) and a full scoobysport exhaust system decatted, i was thinking along the lines of Walboro 255 fuel pump, sti pink injectors, uprated fuel pressure regulator, 3 port boost solinoid, STI6 intercooler, TD05 or a simular IHI one, and a ecutek.....but someone i know said check the guys on your forum because you might be ok with the TD04 if not would a front entry TD05 be better or would an IHI VF? be better...

Also if i may be so bold and ask another, when i first got the car it had Prodrive Backbox and a prodrive pipe to the intercooler, what i was wondering is do you think i may have also got the prodrive ECU, if so how would i tell and are these mappable or would i need to get hold of a standard MY00 ECU....thanks for your time.....Justin...

Damocell 06 February 2007 06:25 PM

Prodrive ECU has pink writing IIRC and is mappable, but I don't think STI Pinks will fit the classic, could be wrong I'm sure someone will be along to let you know:thumb:

I can tell you more tomorrow how much power you can get out of a VF turbo on standard 440 injectors as I am having MY99 UK car uprated at API the spec will be:

VF29/35
STI 8 Intercooler
3 inch decat (heat wrapped and sprayed)
Panel filter
Samco hoses for induction and turbo
Front wing resonator removed
Walbro Fuel pump
3 port boost solenoid
STI 5 gearbox and diff
Exedy Organic Clutch
Also brakes and handling mods

Looking to get over 300bhp/300lbft, preferably 320bhp/320lbft

I'll let you know the results tomorrow.

cheers damo let me know dude........Justin..

my99 rb5 made 276/281 @ 1.25 bar on a td04

scoobysmiff 06 February 2007 07:42 PM

You wont need to change injectors for 300bhp, 440's will be fine at this level, pinks will fit if you get phase 2 but as said, not really needed at this level.
Std boost pressure on your car should be 0.9bar max which is quite conservative,
The Sti intercooler isn't much different to your existing one however, the inlet pipe for it is, i would consider a FMIC as they are real good value for money if you shop around (like the Group buy on at the mo)
You might struggle to get 300 out of a std TD04, alternatives are
TD05,
Vf28 (from P1)
VF24 (V5/6 Sti) or
an Andy F Hybrid Td04 which has had excellent results iirc.
Walbro - yes
3 port solenoid - yes
ecuteck - yes

hey thanks scoobysmiff very informative so i will need a new turbo its just all the good priced td05's seem not to be front entry worsed luck......Thanks again buddy...Justin..

ace2000 06 February 2007 08:09 PM

also... is the pink writing the only way to tell if i have a prodrive ecu.....cheers

sorry to hijack, but what is the max boost you can put through a td04:wonder:

scoobysmiff 06 February 2007 08:19 PM

not sure about max boost, but mine is putting out about 1.2 bar and seems ok atm?

It's not so much pink writing but the entire injector colour is pink, your 440's are completely yellow

I was going to fit a Vf28 to mine (feature creep has caused me to rethink and side towards a TD06-20G now - a little bit different i know, but hey WTF)
These run really well (VF28 that is) if your not looking for huge power, very good driveability and nicely suited to a fast road car on std internals and gearbox.

I didn't think that newage STI pinks fitted any of the classics as they are top and not side feed. The phase 1 injectors were up to 98 then the phase two were to 00, then it was the newage...could be wrong though.

you can convert the injector rails though :thumb:

scoobysmiff 06 February 2007 08:42 PM

Your correct, new age will not fit, you will need to get phase 2 injectors as per MY99/00.

I've got 1.45 Bar midrange tailing off to 1.2 Bar on my TD04 Hybrid. Not sure if the same can be applied to a standard TD04 :wonder: .

I got 306bhp/293lbft at Dastek last summer, but it only made 1.2 Bar on the rollers, so I reckon on the road its a little bit higher. :D
Car was road mapped by Andy F btw.

ace2000 06 February 2007 09:20 PM

right so if i understand correctly, if my car has not got pink injectors it hasn't got a prodrive ecu. and if its got the yellows its standard....cheers justin...btw it sounds like the vf28 is the one i should be looking out for,,,

Damocell 06 February 2007 09:23 PM

No mate, it will have yellow injectors as standard and the writing on the outside of the ECU will be pink, pull up the carpet in the passenger footwell and remove the metal plate that protects the ECU if the writing is pink the ECU is a prodrive ECU if the writing is yellow its normal....classics didn't come with pink 550 (approx) injectors STI or UK.

The colour of the injectors has no link to the colour of the writing on the ECU.

ace2000 06 February 2007 09:28 PM

nice one Damo, i will lift the passenger carpet in the morning and check...cheers...:)

Ive got a MY00, had a VF35 (from a STi 8) fitted recently at 1.45bar and boy does it now fly!! Total transformation, I can strongly recommend upgrading your turbo. My insurance did'nt go up at all!! Bargain!

No need to change injectors as your 440's will handle up to 320bhp.

i had my MY02 bugeyed modded to about 280ps at 1.25bar on td04, normally you can safelly go to about 300ps+ without damaging engine internals:thumb:
i've runned mine for nearly 5 years without any probs!:norty:

ace2000 08 February 2007 10:10 PM

cheers lad ..some exciting news then :) i will deffo change the turbo.
