Power FC ECU question

Good afternoon,

This may be a stupid question but when you buy an Apexi Power FC ECU for a 1995 WRX does the unit completely replace the standard ECU ?

If the answer is Yes then this leads onto my second question:

Is there any gain in replacing my Version 1 ECU with a Version 2 ECU? I have heard the Version 2 has the abiliby to have chips like the ESL one pushed onto the board rather than soldered?

Cheers

Dave

Yes, the power fc does replace standard ecu but not sure about your second question.

Chips or adaptors can be fitted to any ECU, the most common for this being any Turbo/WRX ECU from 1993 - 1996

But would it be easier to add a chip from yourself or ESL for instance on the later version 2 ECU? Or is it not really an issue for tuners?

Cheers

Dave :)

Not too sure by what you mean on version1 and 2 ecu.
The early ecus were U8,W6 and 2C in the early wrx then replaced by the z4 (which you have i think)
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...cu002Small.jpg the chip goes into the plastic holder on the bottom right (this is the z4)
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...cu001Small.jpgthe chip goes in the same place but you need a plastic holder which you get with the ESL chip (this is W6,U8,2C)

Well i assume the ECU's are different, a version 1 - 93 to 95 runs 0.8bar and the version 2 among other things runs 0.9 bar so they must be different?

i only know them by number/letter code:)
WRXs from Nov92 to Aug94 ran the early ecu (2c,u8 and w6) then the z4 came in Sept94

Ahh ok, so i guess i am asking, is it worth changing my early ecu (2c,u8 and w6) for the later Z4 when my brother gets his Apexi ecu fitted ?

check www.enduringsolutions.com for the chip and what they can do.
Is your brother replacing a z4 with the apexi? If so you may as well put it in your car.
I changed my early ecu for a z4 and its fine (saving up for the apexi though)

Check out Jolly Green Monster - ECU Mapping (buying, fitting and mapping £750-800).
AndyForrestPerformance (buying,fitting and mapping)
These are just 2 of the people who deal with apexi.
Welcome - Nengun Performance is direct from Japan but takes a few weeks to arrive (buy only)

My bro got it off ebay, from japan, paid a bit of import duty but was still cheaper than the UK!
