brake calipers

i want to paint my brake calipers , do i need to take the calipers off or can i paint them while they are still on the disc's ?

best to take them off but don't disconnect fluid linesuse some wire to support them to keep weight off hoses. I used halfords brake paint for mine.

leave em' on, clean them up with white spirit, then paint them with smoothrite enamel. you'd be suprised how long it lasts and doesn't cost half as much as supposed caliper paint.

id say get caliper paint as when i used the above. when the brakes heat up the paint bubbles.

Smoothrite. Mine have been painted on the rears for 5 years, with only needing minor touching up. The fronts were painted with it for 18months before being swapped for Brembos. Again, no problems.

My lad's fronts and rears on his Ibiza are painted with Smoothrite and no problems yet.

You can do it with the discs and pads in place, a smaller child's paintbrush helps, used on the tricky bits, as does a steady hand and a few sheets of printer paper to slip into cracks and paint up to.
