New mods = big smiles for a lowly bugeye wrx
 

Amazing difference, anyone contemplating modding a newage WRX this seems to do the trick (without changing turbo or TMIC, which is obviously next job if I go any further as these are now limiting what can be done)

Prodrive sports cat downpipe (MOT friendly and very good)
Magnex up-pipe
Walbro fuel pump
Whiteline 22mm rear ARB
API engines rear alloy droplinks
Mintex 1144 pads on standard disks
Goodridge braided brake lines with new fluid
K&N Panel filter
CEL fix from Hayward & Scott for decat up-pipe (works a treat)
STi alloys with Toyo Proxes T1S 225/45/17

and an amazing remap by Steve Cotton (cotcomp.com) have transformed my humble wrx with it's TD04 into a quick little car. Handling seems improved by the ARB, but I've changed wheels and tyres at same time too. It also stops fairly rapid with new pads - seem good enough for quick road I'd say. Not up to the standard of a lot of the tuned ones around on here, but a lovely drive for a bugeye wrx.

Pottering around between 30 and 40 zones the car drives smooth and pulls from 30 in 4th without having to think should I change down. The down pipe and up-pipe certainly promotes early spool up which you can hear from just under 2500rpm

Pulling onto the M6 northbound at the notoriously short J34 (I kid you not, sharp bend then about 100yards sliproad !) the car just flew to 90, pulling much stronger than before all the way with pleanty left as I eased off.

I can definately recommend these mods to newage WRX owners, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Steve for the mapping. I don't know what power it's putting out, I suppose thats one drawback of not mapping on a rolling road, I'm guessing 280ish, but it certainly performs exactly right where it matters, on the roads.

One slight problem is it does tramline slightly with the new wheels and tyres on. It's not to bad but I've been told quite common with 225's and advised that a full geometry setup will sort this, so I'll be doing that next.

937 and pence for parts (inc wheels/tyres). 600 for 60k service, fitting and a map (it had already had Ecutek license)

Been buying parts for a few months just waiting for service (and xmas bonus !) to fit em and remap. Didnt really need the wheels, but my old tyres were not great

how'd you manage to get STi alloys and tyres for 300 quid!

By being cheeky on ebay and offering to pay cash and collect the next day. They are mint too, no kerbing at all and tyres have 6mm+ evenly worn on all of em, just scrubbed nicely. Well they had before the mapping lol, it had a good thrashing round the twisties where he lives.

Just message sellers on ebay in your area, offer to wave money at em for a quick sale and they usually cave in to stop them having to post the buggers. If you don't ask you never know :thumb:

Not many around with this colour finish, they were fitted to WR1's when imported I believe and swapped for 18's

Edit : just noticed the nasty kerbing on one of em !

if anyone is intested in those wheel above, i have a single perfect rim available. fitted with a nearly new RE070, to make a full set :)

Yes a TD04 Hybrid certainly sounds like a good way to go. A stronger pull without loosing the early spool up, which is perfect for WRX with their lower rev limit.

I can certainly recommend replacing your std downpipe with a prodrive sports cat, keep an eye out for a bargain one. The later ones are fatter without the external jacket so they're the ones to go for. That's the only cat on mine now.

I don't know how the rear ARB would affect tramlining.

I sold mine for £240. So just shop around and flash the cash :D

Agree re TD04H. VF35 has better "punch" but TD04H broader powre band - you pays your money and makes yer choice.

Will get sportscat dp at some point. Thought about new Ninja since it's £300, which is "not three bad" - guess if a 2nd hand Prodrive was a fair bit cheaper I'd go for that !
