V8's and Mt Panorama

How the Aussies do their racing (brute force) :D

Poor Guy 05 February 2007 08:03 PM

you can keep ****ty F1.

Is that on british telly?

davyboy 05 February 2007 08:14 PM

This has been live on motors TV for the last few years.

The Oz touring cars is one of the best motorsport spectacles. It's not a difficult concept, lots of V8 power, little down force and close racing.

What's really nice when you watch it, is the drivers, pit crews and TV staff really seem to get on well and have fun.

another good vid. This is after a couple of hours and a 1000 km of racing :)

and this for the sound

I do miss the Aussie supercars. Nothing quite like the sound of a V8 :notworthy

I used to have an excellent vid of bathhurst when a freak rain storm hit the circuit, and cars were hitting the barrier from all angles. :)
Brilliant place, would love to go :D

J4CKO 05 February 2007 08:40 PM

Forza motorsport has a version of this circuit.

1987(?) James Hardie 1000:thumb: Proper carnage:D The race used to be broadcast in segments on the television in the UK, on World of Sport I think:wonder:

I've been:luxhello: When there is no racing on, the Mount Panorama circuit is a one-way public road, with houses on the perimeter:D You can drive round it (at a sensible speed, it's not the 'Ring;)) to your heart's content, the bit over the mountain and down the corkscrew is proper :thumb: when you are four up in a rented Commodore:D

CrisPDuk 06 February 2007 02:43 AM

As an aside, if it wasn't for saloon/touring car endurance races like the James Hardie 1000, and Ford's dominance of them with the RS500, the R32 Skyline GT-R would never have existed

KiwiGTI 06 February 2007 09:43 AM

Loads of great cars have been involved in Bathurst.

Here's a few for starters :

YouTube - Dick Johnson Bathurst Top Ten Shoot Out 1983
YouTube - Volvo 240 Turbo at Bathurst 1985

Plus the M3's, Falcon GT's.

Dream Weaver 06 February 2007 10:06 AM

V8 Supercars are superb, shown on C5 late on Monday nights.

I have a 1991 Bathurst video here, with the Skylines, my fave circuit ever.

EddScott 06 February 2007 10:13 AM

IIRC, Few laps before the end of '05 were mad.

Everyone hammer down and then a few of the front runners managed to take each other out with one almost going over the barrier.

Best thing on Motors TV by some margin. Its an awesome day to let your ass grow IMO. For the last few years Bathurst has been on the same day as the F1 Japanese Grand Prix. So, up early watch the F1 live. Have some food get some bears and settle in for the Bathurst which is 2pm to about 9pm ish.

My favorite Sunday every year :thumb:

davyboy 06 February 2007 11:06 AM

That must be the "re-live" then!

It would be on about 2am - 9am.

tmo 06 February 2007 11:14 AM

James Hardie 1000 in the 80's happy memories. the camera work (headlight cam etc) was way in front of anything the good old BBC could provide.
Brocky at his best, RIP :(

Driver cam, when they were piling down conrod straight, turning from a front view to the driver, and then the commentators chatting to the driver !!!!! :thumb:

Wasn’t the mountain section annually taken over by a bunch of bikers / hells angels during the race ?

Yeah, 1987 JH1000. Got it on video.

Contains one of the best pieces of motorsporting footage I have ever seen. In-car with Glen Seaton in a RWD Skyline, who opted to stay on slicks during a cloudburst. The camera stayed with him for almost a lap. as Glen opposite- locked his way around, one hand on the wheel, barely lifting. The normally manic commentary team fell into virtual silence, just murmuring the odd gasp, a few pained "owww"s, and the occasional "oh my goodness" as they waited for The Big Shunt. When the rear tyres lit up whilst flat in fifth down Conrod and an armful of opposite lock was needed, they nearly had a heart attack. Surprised it's never made it onto Youtube.

Motors TV re-run the lot on the afternoon. Would watch during the night but the Japanese GP is from 5-6 till 9 then re-run in the afternoon too.

Think last year there was a BTCC round on the same day so that filled in the gaps between the two.

Its the only time I don't feel bad sitting on my arse for over 12 hours!

SJ_Skyline 06 February 2007 01:51 PM

Matt Neal, Jason Plato and Crosseye Thompson race out there most years. :thumb:

Then get it on Olly :D

Saw the V8's at Surfers Paradise for the Indy 300 weekend 2 years ago, amazing experience, best motorsport event I've ever been too!!

Sound of the V8's through the streets was incredible, never heard anything like it... makes F1 cars sound girly :lol1:

Also driven around Bathurst in a Ford Falcon, I have top respect for those guys driving around there at a fast pace, I really don't know how they manage it lap after lap!

 PMSL :lol1:

That would involve him connecting a VHS video player to his computer and converting the footage to digital:nono:

You must bear in mind that not only is Olly a wood butcher, and therefore best kept away from anything with a plug on, he also works in a quaint little village that only got The Lektric last week;)

Seriously though, Oll, the guy' right, get it done:thumb:
Or better still get Little Pete to do it, keep him from fecking about with his new rep chariot;)

I'm officially envious;) Surfers Paradise is on my 'to do before dying' list:D

Bit tight in places, isn't it:eek:

Don't bother, it's a ****hole. They say God created Queensland because it's paradise - why he filled it with dickheads is anybody's guess. :)

For racing Philip Island or Bathurst would be better.

Been to Phillip Island:thumb: I'm going again for this years MotoGP:D Never seen a race at Bathurst:( Yet;)

I want to go to Surfers Paradise for the reasons Slim J stated, to see and hear those touring cars pounding round a concrete lined circuit with no room for error:eek:

It and Mt Panorama were both featured on TOCA Race Driver, I couldn't get a car round either without leaving virtual paint behind:)

To be fair the same could be said of the whole of Australia by the less charitable amongst us;)

SlimJ_2005 07 February 2007 10:06 PM

Surfers isn't that bad!! Lets face it, we found the atmosphere so damn good for that week, the whole place was alive, better than the Melbourne GP which was good anyway, better than any motor event I've done in the UK!

If London had a GP and loads of people hung out the windows showing their tits and arses like they do in Surfers, there would be uproar in this country and would likely be banned by the PC crowd for this... and the fact that someone may fall out a window. :D

I've a pic of that when they had the demo in London recently, I'll try and dig it out.

A nice pair if I do say so myself!

Dave
