Smart chips on electrical equipment

This is a long shot but someone may know how they work. We have a piece of equipment at work that requires a guard with a smart chip on (like the ones on credit cards). The chip lasts for 4 cycles then you have to buy a new kit which includes the guard and chip. How would I get the chip cloaned or bypass it so we don't have to keep buying kits we dont need.

We use a lot of "Metabo" tools that use a passive transponder. No transponder? and the tools dont work. we are trying to market a service that can fit these things to any electrical item in a house. so if stolen they wont work.

I would guess its a question of finding out if its aftermarket. Then find out how its attached and will removing it and bridging the contacts then work.

Is it a Sat nav location device??
