how far can they be pushed?

currently looking to build a 450 - 500 bhp engine

for a road car how much can a std ej257 take, for an extra £@@@@ would i be stupid not to get it relined

or even a smaller cdb bored out

im curretly running a std wrx internally running over 380 bhp on the std clutch and gear box :eek: if that shows how much I really "use" the car

i just don't want to be in the same position i am now where i dare not nail the car down santa pod \ track because Im worried it will pop

im stuck so all help welcome

There are several people running EJ257 engines at 450-500 bhp. Whether that means the engine can live with that power long term...

Only from what I've read:

You will need good (aftermarket) pistons for that power and good rods too.

My sti 2.5 (EJ257)bottom end has lasted only 18000 miles since being built and that's only a max bhp of 380,It's now being rebuilt with forged pistons and steel rods etc.
Hopefully the last rebuild for a long time.
When describing the engine I was told that it was worn out ?

Graham

rods and pistons are panned, just thining about the block at this stage
Things are starting to move :)

Burns;

the current Sti's are pushing that, so i guess it was something to do with your build or map

John Stevenson's hillclimb impreza uses OE 257 block / liners and is around the 500 mark
