Is there anyone out there who could help me please. The problem I am experiencing with a 1995 Jap WRX is that it cuts out the acceleration between 4000 and 5000 rpm. If I suddenly want to take off it will quit accelerating at 3000rpm but if I gradually build the acceleration up slowly it will go to the 4000/5000 rpm and and give up acceleration. I also notice it is running without the turbo kicking in. When travelling at constant speed of roughly 60 / 80mph the accleration will shiver... I am confused... what could it be... Please help :-( For a fuller description of the problem please see the 'drivetrain' section in the technical heading forum of the scoobynet.

Don't know if you've solved this yet 'cos its gone from the 2-days view of Drivetrain. Sounds like the ECU has thrown a wobbly and gone into safe mode. It has happened to me several times. As long as the check engine isn't showing any fault codes, reset the ECU (do a search to find out how) or simply just disconnect the battery -ve terminal for a few minutes and reconnect. Fault show go by magic.

Or is it over boosting?????

Dont ask me how...Domt ask me why...But that sounds the same as what is happening to you!!

Check none of your pipes are off or burst around the intercooler !

It could be a number of things causing it to revert to limp-home-mode.

Get it to a garage with a select monitor.

Had the same on my MY93 WRX, check the coil packs. Theyre made of a hard bakelite type material and are prone to cracking.

Remove them and pull the rubber end cap off. Inspect em very carefully and you may well find a hair line crack. I did, and with that coil pack replaced, it was fine. It was explained to me as the spark being blown out.......make of that what you will but certainly worth a DIY check.

The next step is the ECU but Id doubt its actually in reversionary mode as the check engine light shows this.

Good Luck
