Engine JDM WRX or UK 2000

Hi I'm currently looking around the at Subaru breakers for an engine to go in my mid-engined kit/replica (dry weight circa 700kg). Much as I would like an STI lump the budget I have will stretch to an mid 90's JDM WRX motor or a newer UK spec Turbo motor. The car mostly get dry day summer use only. Either on the road or for track day.

Any recommendations on going either a slightly newer and lower power UK spec or a JDM WRX. A bit like with most of you guys you would like more power, thus I would obviously prefer a 280PS JDM lump. But that aside any pro's and cons for both.

Mods to fit the engine will be de-cat and a single box muffler/silencer. The silencer will replace the cat as far as location. and that will be it exhaust wise. No space for anything more. Maybe changes to the air intake system in the form of a K&N etc
